Looking for a way to maximize business value with greater automation and simpler management?

Virtualization, one of the IT industries exploding trends, has contributed to the strong influence and popularity of blade servers in the data center. For that reason, InfoWorld surveyed 87 organizations in their latest QuickPulse paper that are all in the process of server related purchases.

In the survey, InfoWorld reported that virtualization, improving disaster management, data center consolidation and lower management costs are some of the most mentioned IT priorities, and almost half (44%) put virtualization at the top of the list for the upcoming 12 months. When asked about blade server purchases, 40% said greater performance was the leading driver, followed by the need to simplify management and increase flexibility (38%).

According to IDG, in a market with many different options, blades account for as much as 17% of overall server revenue, and HP is the market leader. While the more traditional platforms can deliver the performance an organization needs, they often come with a significantly higher cost of ownership, lower efficiencies and more complexity. The modular form factor, offered by a blades infrastructure, allows for easily interchangeable components ranging from networking to storage, with shared power and cooling. This flexibility in configuring enclosures makes blades the perfect choice for organizations of all sizes with any workload - and offers a total cost of ownership that is significantly less than that of a traditional platform.
