Case study: Jupiter Medical Center

Jupiter Medical Center, located in Jupiter, Florida, strives to provide world-class healthcare while still remaining a not-for-profit community hospital. Jupiter Medical Center offers services in a broad range of specialties and delivers many educational programs in its community. However, to keep up with the larger medical providers that surround it and to comply with Health IT regulations, Jupiter is under constant pressure to innovate in cost-effective ways to deliver patient care.

Their objective was to find a storage solution that is easy to manage and will improve application reliability and performance, and the best blade solution to improve agility and efficiency when deploying new applications. Ultimately, they chose an HP Converged Infrastructure solution consisting of HP ProLiant Gen8 server blades, HP Virtual Connect, and HP 3PAR Storage System.

Having been an EMC storage shop for nearly 10 years, Jupiter found that uptime was a problem on its current EMC storage. Additionally, they wanted to consolidate storage into one system that could provide the quantity of storage and performance it needed – HP 3PAR fit the bill perfectly.

"The HP 3PAR solution far exceeded our expectations. From a
performance standpoint, it’s doing great and it has reduced our
          storage costs.”

Stephen Meyer, Director of Technical Services, Jupiter Medical Center

Jupiter also evaluated blade solutions from HP and Cisco and found the HP blades were easier to manage. When Cisco came in with UCS, Jupiter spent a lot of effort just to get it up and running. With the HP solution, it was seamless – from the blades to Virtual Connect to the 3PAR storage – it was much easier to provision than a Cisco UCS-to-EMC solution.

“With the synergy between HP blades, HP Virtual Connect, and
         HP 3PAR StoreServ,
we are faster to market with our systems.
Healthcare is so competitive and highly regulated, so for us to meet
customers’ needs and deliver applications faster helps us compete ...”

Stephen Meyer, Director of Technical Services, Jupiter Medical Center

With the synergy between the HP technologies, the IT improvements Jupiter realized included:

  • The elimination of a six-figure cost for maintaining their storage system
  • Reduced SAN downtime from 17 hours a year to ZERO
  • The ability to deploy new applications faster

In turn, this enabled Jupiter to:

  • Better compete
  • Deliver patient information quickly and reliably
  • Preserve limited capital
  • Support government healthcare regulations in timely manner
