Case Study: GMO Cloud K.K.

GMO CLOUD K.K. develops hosting and security solutions for Japanese small-to-medium sized enterprises. It is the country’s largest domestic hosting service with over 130,000 users and the second biggest SSL server certificate issuing service.

The company changed its name from GMO Hosting & Security to GMO Cloud, developing a new Cloud service for larger businesses. IQ Cloud, an Internet-as-a-Service concept, is GMO’s first service aimed directly at the enterprise market.

"One of the expectations for businesses using Cloud services is to be able to use IT infrastructure as inexpensively as possible," says Shinji Kaneko, Department Manager of the Enterprise Sales Planning Department. "On the other hand, there are businesses with specific requirements, such as security, performance and reliability. With IQ Cloud, our goal is to handle this kind of enterprise level service requirement with minimal set-up time.

The CloudSystem is built on HP Converged Infrastructure, which accelerates the provision of IT services and applications by integrating servers, storage and networking into an interoperable pool of resources. The construction of the IQ Cloud infrastructure, centered on the HP CloudSystem, was completed in just three months.

"Once we’d selected the right system, we moved immediately to verification," says Kaneko. "We tested system reliability and manageability and launched the service across the whole business. GMO Cloud’s culture is to execute immediately once a decision is reached."
