Data Protection: Taking Care of Customers, Taking Care of Business

Last month at HP Discover, HP announced the latest version of its flagship backup and recovery product, HP Data Protector. I was part of the team that went to HP Discover event in Las Vegas to support the launch of yet another stellar release of our Data Protector software.

The last few releases of Data Protector have generated great excitement in the market as they have integrated the right innovation into the product to meet the most demanding backup and recovery needs for our customers. Some of those innovations integrated in Data Protector are:

  • Implementation of highly scalable and flexible de-duplication via HP StoreOnce integration
  • Extended backup to cloud
  • Advanced application protection
  • Native integration to provide automated backup and recovery for VMware vCloud Director infrastructure

In DP 8.0, one of the key features is breakthrough scalability and performance, accomplished by revamping DP’s internal database containing catalog database and media management information.

At Discover, I had the pleasure of talking with many customers, prospects, and partners regarding new capabilities of Data Protector and answering their questions.

There was one conversation with a prospective customer that comes to mind, who had been evaluating Data Protector and was interested in what was new and exciting about DP 8.0.We chatted for over a half hour about DP’s new features, licensing, and overall architecture. Towards the end of our conversation, he asked “What is the upgrade path from older versions of the product?” Customers don’t want to deal with any troubles when it comes upgrading a product and we have taken this into account. HP Autonomy engineers have developed solid migration tools to ensure that the upgrade from older versions to the latest software is automated and trouble-free.

After explaining this, as well as mentioning our vigorous testing measures, he was satisfied with my answer. This customer’s prime concern was our care of our existing customers to ensure that he wouldn’t be dealing with any troubles when it comes to support, upgrades and migrations after he signs on.

Conversations like this one, reaffirms how proud I am of our team who spent months testing DP 8.0 to ensure its quality measured up to our high standards. To be a successful company you can’t just deliver compelling features and functionality. You must invest in delivering the very best experience in every interaction a customer has with the product and your company.  HP Autonomy makes our customers our top priority which, in my opinion, is always the right path to take.
