Leveraging the cloud for IT services and applications can significantly add value to a corporation; and in some cases, provide better service in the cloud than you were achieving before. However, it’s easier said than done. How could something that sounds simple actually require a great deal of thought before implementation? Considerations include: security, compliance, recovery times, bandwidth, change rates, access, SLAs, where to store data and how long to store it.

Not all data is created equal and different retention and destruction rules may be needed for different data sets within the organization. Different geographic regions have their own local data protection and privacy acts that need to be complied with too. Then, there’s the trust thing. You’re going to put your corporate data in the cloud, outside of your network? Scary! Or is it?

Leveraging the cloud doesn’t have to be scary, and we’re here to help you think about considerations you should make when looking to take the jump.

On January 30th, Jeff Boles from the Taneja Group will be hosting a vendor panel on Backup and Archiving in the Age of the Cloud where we'll discuss the fundamental challenges and emerging capabilities that are taking customers down the path of new approaches to data backup and data retention in their on-premise and/or off-premise cloud infrastructures. The panel will consist of leading thinkers from four vendors that represent the leading innovations for private and public cloud information protection and retention.

Join me, along with the other panelists, by registering to attend here.

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for the mention of the webinar - I'm looking forward to it with you folks; think we'll have a tremendously broad set of perspectives on what "the cloud" and "cloudy architectures" mean for data protection, backup architectures, risk, information governance, and more.

Great post! The cloud is probably going to be integrated by my business very soon here, so thanks for the info!
