Re: HP9000 rp3440 console/serial not responding

Is the server getting power at all?

Can you access the system MP through the 25 pin connector?  This would utilize a 3 way splitter offering 3 connectors for Console, UPS and remote (modem)?

Re: HP9000 rp3440 console/serial not responding

Bob,

Thanks for the reply. I was trying to use the 25-pin serial connection. It looks like it may have been a physical connection issue. I pulled the top, reseated memory (since I was in there), and disconnected/reconnected the internal serial connection ribbon on the motherboard.  Now I have console.

Re: HP9000 rp3440 console/serial not responding

Hi,

I have rp3440. But I can't connect to it. When I connect console (serial) there is no response. I try to use putty and many others terminal emulators with configuration like is in manual. Nothing works. I also check cable to motherboard. It is connected. I also you reset button (hold for 10 seconds) - didn't help.

Other think is that yellow led is flashing on the front of the server.

Any suggestions will be very appriciate.

Thank you.

Re: HP9000 rp3440 console/serial not responding

Hi,

How are you connecting to MP using Console Port (Serial A) -which is 9 Pin or Management Serial port (25 Pin)?

According to the connection the access is different,

if it is 25 pin connection - you need to use splitter  cable which comes with (remote, serial and modem) , you need to connect Serial port in Splitter where you will get MP access .

If you dont have any 25 pin connector in your system, the system does not have a extended core IO or Managment card.

in this case you need to acces BMC via Serial A port where you will get CLI Promt for BMC access.

If the MP is installed, you need this cable:

Hope this helps!

I use Management Serial port (25 Pin) like on the picture above. Then I connect serial cable (female-female) to the console and to the serialTOusb cable connected to my pc. So it is 25Pin -> serial cable -> serialTOusb -> PC.

SerialTousb cable works for 100%. I test it on other server.

Is there possibility that both batteries are death and that's the reason why I cannot connect?

What type of other server?

The serial cable, is it "null modem"?

Re: HP9000 rp3440 console/serial not responding

The cable looks good in your attachment, You used the "console" pin of this cable, right? Of course.

With bad batteries the devices (server and MP) are loosing settings if power is removed completely, but they are still functional.

Keep your pc connected, pull the power cable and push it back, you should see at least the banner text of the MP (serial line speed setting to 9600).

If you get nothing, pull the power, disconnect the small flex cable between the systemboard and the MP, connect your pc to COM1 and power up the server. After a couple of minutes you should see the boot menu.

Does this work?

If the MP has an IP address set, try to connect via network.

If you reset the MP to defaults, it is at DHCP.

Hope this helps!

COM1 you mean port on attachted picture?

Nothing happend after 5 minutes. Status LED is flashing green and Diagnostic LED number 2 is on.

If the DHPC will works how should I connect? Telnet? SSH?

DHCP doesn't work too. I try reset button (hold for 10 seconds).

Re: HP9000 rp3440 console/serial not responding

COM1 becomes the console if no MP card is present.

Hope this helps!
