Discover how HP Cloud Maps can accelerate your ability to design and deploy cloud services

You have created your cloud infrastructure; and now everything is in place—well almost.  You have your service catalog online, but it is empty because you do not have any services to provision with. Traditionally you would have created these services yourself and they would have taken months of test to get them production ready. With HP Cloud Maps now you can fast track building your application service catalogue in minutes!

HP welcomes IBM’s rhetoric around stronger OpenStack® support

Written by Saar Gillai, senior vice president and general manager of Converged Cloud for Hewlett Packard

The growth and market acceptance of OpenStack has been a journey.  One that HP has been closely involved with for nearly two years.  Our decision to leverage OpenStack for our cloud platform was not made lightly, and was based on our experience of deploying cloud solutions for several years prior to our OpenStack participation. In fact, we have thousands of customers using our cloud solutions and services, and those numbers are growing quickly.

Find out what over 1/3 of the world uses to power their private and hybrid clouds…

I just got out of the HP Converged Cloud press conference here at HP Discover and there are some exciting enhancements that HP has announced specific to enterprise and service provider customers looking to build and manage cloud services.  After almost 2 years, HP now has over 850 CloudSystem customers in 75 countries…that’s over 1/3 of the world!

Building a Winning Cloud Service Launch Platform

Written by: Richard Arthur

In previous blogs I discussed factors in market segmentation and feedback from a recent summit concerning public cloud services being launched today. Those can be found here.   In this blog I assume you have some idea of which services you want to launch, now is time to think about your platform for launch.

Many service providers have tools and portals in place for customer services that they will want to reuse.  However do not underestimate the flexibility requirements of a cloud services platform.   As we have seen time and time again in the Internet – knowing which services you want to launch today does not mean you know which ones you will need to launch (and retire!) in six months.   Flexibility at all levels in a Cloud services platform is critical.    Further, consistency for the end-customer will be critical.   End-customers will view you as a “one-stop shop” for cloud services and they need to have them presented that way.

Finally, an “all-in-one” cloud services platform will reduce risk and investment for each service being launched.

Define or identify the roles in your organization that will be responsible, accountable, consulted, informed (RACI) for each part of the cloud services platform.

HP CloudSystem Matrix hybrid cloud and bursting support

On June 5, HP announced the release of CloudSystem Matrix 7.1 including Matrix OE 7.1. Starting with version 7.0, released earlier this year, Matrix OE could burst to Savvis as a service provider. Matrix OE 7.1 adds HP Cloud Services (OpenStack-based) and Amazon EC2  as service providers. But what is the value of bursting, and how does Matrix OE 7.1 provide value in a hybrid environment?

Managing Private and Hybrid Clouds

Written by: Ken Won, Director of Product Marketing, Cloud Service Automation

This week at Discover 2012, HP announced a new version of HP Cloud Service Automation, available as a core element of CloudSystem Enterprise or as a standalone software product, for managing private and hybrid clouds. As a key element in HP’s Converged Cloud strategy, HP Cloud Service Automation is the industry’s most comprehensive, unified solution for brokering and managing application and infrastructure services in private and hybrid clouds, helping IT organizations increase agility and reduce cost, via a self-service portal and highly-automated lifecycle management.

Announcing HP CloudSystem Matrix 7.1

HP, my dedicated co-workers, and I are proud to announce HP CloudSystem Matrix and HP CloudSystem Matrix Software version 7.1 today. This release has a combination of new features as well as improvements to existing functionality. A lot of this work is based on ideas and feedback from our customers - so thank you for providing your input!

Some of the new features include:

Cloud is like life: Plenty of options, but which is the best for you, and your organization?

My 5 year old asked me today, “Why do I have to go to school?  Can’t I work and make money without going to school?”

How do you answer that?  Is it as simple as saying “YES!”, or does it need further explanation?

If you think of it simplistically – the end result is the same – to make money and support yourself.  However, the route to get there, and the quality of life would be different.

I think of cloud in the same way.  You can think of it one step at a time with piecemeal cloud solutions.  Or you can look at the bigger picture and have the end-game in sight so that each decision you make gets you one-step closer on your cloud journey to hybrid delivery.

Caution: One Cloud may hide another. Don't be distracted by IaaS, SaaS is where it's at.

I read this article written by Richard Arthur yesterday and thought it would be worth promoting on the forum. It's a good read.

The cloud opportunity that service providers have today goes far beyond Infrastructure as a Service that (IaaS) offers that have already been launched globally. Gartner estimates that business process services represent $71.1 billion vs only $31 billion for IaaS. According to “marketsandmarkets.com” SaaS is 73% of the cloud market – including players such as Google Mail, Yahoo Mail, Adobe Web connect and, presumably large enterprise players such as salesforce. Why you need a cloud computing strategy and how to develop one

Written by Judy Redman

Does your company have a long-term strategy around cloud computing?   New research is showing that despite the groundswell of interest in cloud computing, Most companies have not mapped out a long-term strategy.  In fact, recent CRN and ComputerWeekly.com articles cite TPI research indicating that only five percent of companies have a strategic program for cloud computing.

HP CloudSystem Matrix – The Open Integrated Cloud

This is a great article I just spotted from a colleague of mine, Nick Vanderzweep, who highlights some of the advantages HP CloudSystem Matrix has over other vendor offerings. Nick writes “A while back I wrote a blog about how Cisco doesn’t have a Cloud offering like HP does with CloudSystem Matrix.  Some folks asked if UCS compares to Matrix and I cleared that up - No.  Then they asked if VCE compared to Matrix and again I stated that it did not compare to Matrix in that all VCE was is a bundle of servers, storage and networking from a loose coalition of vendors. It is not a Cloud.”
