Cloud and Service Orientation, rethink your IT department

Ever had this feeling when presenting to an audience that your points got missed? That happened to me about a month ago when presenting to a large European company. It got me thinking. Why didn't it work? The results of my thoughts, this blog entry. I realized the organization from the IT department and the way the team was focused made it unreceptive for my cloud message. You ask yourself why,

Keys to achieving trust and accountability in the cloud

You’ve read or heard the news….Sony, Lockheed and other big organizations are hacked; Amazon’s cloud goes down.  The FBI shuts down servers in its mission to take down the LulzSec hackers. It’s no wonder CIOs and IT leaders are nervous about cloud computing security and data in the cloud.

New HP Cloud Reference Architecture for Mission Critical CloudSystem

To demonstrate reliable private cloud implementations for mission critical computing, HP and Intel jointly announced a new HP Cloud Reference Architecture, featuring new Integrity blades I2 servers with Intel® Itanium® 9300 Series. Acting as the HP EMEA Cloud Center of Excellence, the HP Intel CME Solution Center from Grenoble France has implemented a new Cloud Infrastructure for mission-critical environments.

Agile development meets IT operations -- in the cloud

Many posts here on Grounded in the Cloud point out the new mindset necessary within an organization when cloud computing becomes part of the overall IT strategy and vision.  As my colleague Christian Verstraete has discussed, the CIO needs to move from an IT service provider to an IT service broker.  But a new way of thinking is also necessary for how applications are developed, deployed monitored and managed within the cloud model.

Cloud assessment video: Are you a cloud master?

Thomas Farrell, Chief Architect, Professional Services, was kind enough to serve as host for a video demonstrating the Cloud assessment tool.  Watch the video and then take the assessment to find out how your IT department compares, where you should focus your efforts and what should be your next steps to mastering the cloud.

Are you a cloud master? Free, simple tool helps you assess your cloud prowess

For more than a year now, the IT world has been buzzing about cloud computing.  With all the hype, it’s hard to know how your IT department compares to peers.  Today at HP DISCOVER, our premiere customer event in Las Vegas,  I had the opportunity to test drive a new, online cloud assessment tool that helps you find out how your IT department compares, where  you should focus your efforts and what should be your next steps to mastering the cloud.

The Cloud Online Assessment not only allows you to compare yourself against your peers, it also provides a customized report with specific recommendations on how to get to the next level of cloud maturity.   If you are at DISCOVER, stop by the Software Pavilion and take the assessment.  If not at DISCOVER, you can take the assessment online.

HP CloudSystem - A single platform for private, public, and hybrid clouds

It’s a fact of life: cloud computing is hot. And when it comes to the use of cloud services, businesses

today are outpacing IT. Business users have been quick to recognize the cloud’s advantages in speeding innovation, accelerating business processes, and reducing time to revenue. They’re clamoring for greater cloud access, and in some cases even bypassing IT and signing up for public cloud services like those from Amazon and Microsoft®.

What Happens In Vegas, well... Soon Will Happen Everywhere

They say that what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. But with HP Discover, featuring HP SaaS, and even Paul McCartney coming to town, there may be too much excitement to contain.

IT Performance system helps prove cloud ROI

I ran across an interesting article the other day by ZDNet blogger Joe McKendrick. McKendrick cites a new cloud survey for The Open Group. The survey says that many believe cloud will bring favorable ROI to IT shops, but they lack a mechanism to track results. Start now creating your own IT Performance system.
