Around the HP Cloud (week ending March 18, 2011)

The biggest news around the HP cloud this week was the announcement of our company’s new vision by CEO Léo Apotheker.  In a comprehensive strategy that includes the cloud, connectivity, webOS and more, Léo states that HP will announce a hybrid environment that combines both public and private clouds to deliver the functionality and capabilities necessary for developers, consumers, and large enterprises.

Analyzing “The Cloud: Battle of the Tech Titans”

Last week I read BusinessWeek’s cover story “The Cloud: Battle of the Tech Titans.” The Cloud (in the Amazon, Google and Microsoft Azure sense of the term) is taking a position in the market, but to complement the existing world rather than to replace it. In medium to large enterprises business people will not pay for their critical IT services with credit cards any time soon. Start-ups are and will until they reach a certain critical mass when they will want to have more control over their own destiny. You disagree?

HP Enterprise Cloud Services-Compute is getting around.  It recently took to the "Sky" in Los Angeles at the 53rd GRAMMY Awards not long after making a similar skywriting appearance at the Super Bowl event in Dallas, Texas. Check out the cool Grammy video below.

  • Stephen Spector is a HP Cloud Evangelist promoting the OpenStack based clouds at HP for hybrid, public, and private clouds . He was previously at Dell promoting their Cloud solutions and was the open source community manager for OpenStack and at Rackspace and Citrix Systems. While at Citrix Systems, he founded the Citrix Developer Network, developed global alliance and licensing programs, and even once added audio to the DOS ICA client with assembler.
