HP CloudSystem: 451 Research’s opinion

Back in July 2011, 451 Research published an Impact Report highlighting HP CloudSystem as “pushing the envelope forward”.  The report also pointed out that HP CloudSystem provides the “best execution venue supported by single policy-based control pane.”

Fast forward a year and a half later…HP CloudSystem has made several enhancements to the portfolio, including extending out-of-the box bursting to HP Cloud Services, Amazon EC2 and Savvis, as well as introducing HP Cloud Maps, prepackaged application templates  designed to respond to new application requests in minutes.

Only HP provides a unified, hybrid cloud experience with SAP

Every vendor claims to have a hybrid cloud solution but can they provide a unified cloud experience?

HP does!

Hope you had a chance to read my previous blog “HP hybrid cloud in action! Cloud automation from business demand to production for SAP landscapes”, where I briefly touched on the pain customers feel as they develop, manage and deploy services across private, hosted and public cloud – all without much automation. They are manually moving services between different cloud models, aligning people, organizational teams and consumers. Plus they are facing challenges to modify service requirements as they move between these various deployment platforms.

Four (additional) things to consider when moving applications to the cloud

Organizations across the Globe are adopting Cloud at a staggering rate, consuming various flavors of cloud such as Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) ,Platform-as-a-Service( PaaS ) & Infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS). As a result, traditional and new breed of applications are moving from in-house hosted datacenters to cloud. Typically Performance testing is considered “luxury item”, a “nice to have” before go-live of application because of various reasons e.g. Project deadline, costs etc. But when applications are moved into cloud, there are additional layer of unknowns that stakeholders should test out before go-live, performance of application being one of them.

Transforming to Cloud, an architectural point of view

On the CloudSource blog, I just started a series that introduces the HP Cloud Functional Reference Architecture. In the series, I am describing the overall principles with which the architecture is constructed. With this in mind, we have to remember that having an architecture is nice, but using it is even better.

Patterns, Complexity, and your IT Strategy

By Roger Lawrence, Chief Technologist, Stategic Enterprise Services - HP South Pacific

As a CTO I’m passionate about a number of topics:

  • How technology can empower people or businesses for success
  • Technology trends and how these shape our world
  • Influence, both at the macro and individual scale

This week I want to discuss complexity, how it informs, and shapes our IT strategy.

It never ceases to amaze me how really smart people can determine a strategy, even execute on this strategy, yet get it so wrong. And fail dismally while they are at it. Often the plan they put in place was considered “best practice.” Ha.
