What’s new in the HP Cloud

If you are at VMworld 2012 today or just like to keep an eye open for new solutions supporting the cloud, here is summary of a new set off offerings from the HP’s Converged Cloud portfolio. These new solutions are mostly focused on VMware, providing users with solutions to easily transform traditional virtualization deployments into private and hybrid cloud environments with less risk and complexity.

If you remember the HP Converged Cloud was introduced earlier back in April and is the industry’s first strategy and portfolio based on a single open architecture that enables the integration of any combination of private, managed and public cloud, as well as traditional IT. This combination provides workload portability as well as dynamic scaling. And why is that important? Well, now users have the ability to use single services that can travel across traditional, private, managed and public cloud environments and not be limited to just one flavor of cloud.

And for what’s new…

HP accelerates cloud transformation, management with new capabilities

HP’s expanded Converged Cloud offerings include the integration of VMware vCloud suite with HP CloudSystem, helping users rapidly transform virtualized resources into self-service private and hybrid cloud environments.

To help accelerate time to value the new HP CloudSystem capabilities for the VMware vCloud suite include:

  • HP CloudSystem optimized for VMware - provides pre-integrated solutions that include HP Converged Infrastructure and cloud management from HP and VMware
  • Auto-flexing feature reduces response time to business requests and improves overall service levels by enabling VMware administrators to provision hardware for vCloud Director to automate the scaling of converged infrastructure
  • Virtual-machine importing  simplifies users path to the cloud by easily importing running virtual machines into an HP CloudSystem without downtime or reconfiguration
  • HP Cloud Maps for VMware  accelerate the design of cloud services and automate the deployment for virtual applications across VMware clusters while reducing the resources spent on application development

In addition, with HP’s Converged Cloud strategy, users can grow their cloud solution to include heterogeneous, application to infrastructure lifecycle management and hybrid capabilities as business demands change.

HP security solutions help ease the barriers to cloud adoption

HP Cloud Protection Program and Consulting Services, delivers a comprehensive security solution that can be designed and implemented in a few weeks. This new service identifies an effective mix of HP and VMware cloud-security capabilities that address common barriers to the adoption of cloud services, while ensuring compliance controls. Management capabilities include cloud, virtualization of the network, and storage virtualization layers.

For VMware clients challenged with addressing the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard (DSS) in virtual environments, HP also offers the industry’s first comprehensive PCI Compliance Security Solution Stack for virtual and cloud environments. This is the first converged security offering that covers 100 percent of the security-based PCI DSS controls, removing security hurdles associated with achieving PCI compliance and access to cloud.

HP protects client data with improves data protection, back-up automation

New HP Data Protector Software provides one-touch, policy-based protection for multi-tenant cloud environments, helping clients eliminate the risk of data loss. HP Data Protector, the only enterprise backup application currently delivering integrated protection for vCloud Director, now automatically applies appropriate backup policies to new virtual machines, increasing IT efficiency while ensuring business continuity.

Together, this news builds on more than a decade of a strategic global alliance between HP and VMware, designed to speed the cloud evolution for virtualization customers and accelerate their time to market. HP has helped more than 1,000 clients transition from virtualization to cloud computing with solutions engineered by HP and its partners.

Overall, HP’s expanded Converged Cloud portfolio continues to extend the power of the cloud to help organizations build, manage, secure and protect cloud infrastructure and applications.
