The power of a cloud IT investment strategy – Did you consider this?

The HP Financial Services team recently posted a blog, The Next Phase of IT Investment Strategy, on challenges of managing the new style of IT from a financial perspective.

Conventional wisdom [for IT] needs to change. IT isn’t an overhead expense; it’s an organizational asset that needs to be managed as an investment, with a steady hand and an eye fixed on enhancing the company’s long-term competitive capabilities and options.

This blog also posted some interesting statistics that highlight the financial impact now facing enterprise IT departments:

  • Up to 60% of IT budget can be tied up in unused IT from pre-provisioning strategies
  • IT Asset Management (ITAM) policies across 30 global enterprises were informal at best of existed simply because of a historical precedent

Clearly, the new role of IT in the enterprise is more than just technology, but also a complete new prioritization for how budgets are set and where IT investments are made. HP is keenly aware of these issues and has dedicated resources within our financial services department to focus on customer solutions.

At HP Discover 2014 I had a chance to talk with Lee Eberding, Director Business Development, HP Financial Services about the importance of a flexible IT investment strategy and how it can help customers accelerate their move to cloud:
