OpenStack Trove Replication and Clustering in Juno, Architecture and Usage  

The Juno release of Trove, the OpenStack Database as a Service project introduces a number of new features.  Chief among these are initial support for replication and clustering. 


In this presentation we will describe:

  • An overview of the implementation of these features outlining      current capabilities and limitations
  • How replication and clustering can be used to achieve high      availability and deliver enhanced performance in a Trove implementation
  • Future enhancements to these features that are currently underway      or planned for future releases
  • Key architectural elements of the Trove project as they relate to      replication and clustering
  • The rationale behind some of the architectural choices and how they      impact other aspects of the Trove project
  • How the framework can be extended to support additional datastores,      and add enhanced capabilities for availability and performance.

We conclude with a demonstration of the replication feature using MySQL including a simulated failure and recovery.


Workload Compute Resource Management 101 and Glance’s new Metadata Definition Catalog  

OpenStack provides a lot of knobs and levers to manage workload resources. The options that govern the placement and operation of workloads is usually specified in extra_specs and other metadata storage locations unique to each resource, and it is hard for the average user to know what options are available, and how to specify the correct options to get the desired behavior.


In this session from HP and Intel, we will provide an overview of the relationship between flavors, images, volumes, and compute hosts. We will provide an overview of the many different filters and driver capabilities and options that can be leveraged to ensure that a given workload is hosted on the best fit host and that the workload is given the proper virtual resources on that host. We will also introduce the new Glance metadata catalog service and explain how it can be used to simplify and coordinate workload placement and resource consumption across services.


Bare-metal provisioning of ARM servers using OpenStack  

In today’s rapidly growing cloud environment driven by Internet of Things (IoT), social and mobility, there is an increasing number of workloads that do not require energy-hungry, brawny-processors offered in high-end x86 servers. Instead, such micro services run most efficiently in high-density, scalable systems powered by ARM-based micro servers built on a System-on-Chip(SoC) design.


With increasing market adoption of high-density ARM micro servers, there is a rising need to harness the power of OpenStack to provision and manage new style of IT workloads on large scale ARM compute pools.


In this session, we will discuss the path we took to use OpenStack technology to successfully provision and manage large pools of bare-metal ARM instances.  The session will cover various customizations required in OpenStack components including building ARM based images, creating scheduler filters etc. to enable bare-metal provisioning of ARM servers.
