“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We are all meant to shine…”

Marianne Williamson

Join Margaret Dawson, VP Product Marketing and Evangelism, HP Cloud as she takes us on her journey of rediscovering her light. During this presentation she will provide guidance and humor to help everyone remember the power of their inner light and how to let it shine in spite of the critics and societal guidelines. She will be speaking at the Women of the Channel Workshop 2013 in New York City on December 3, 2013 from 9:30 – 10:00am ET.

Abstract:

When we were young, most of us were encouraged to “be ourselves” and find our passion.  But somewhere along the path through puberty and onto adulthood, our inner voice and external guidance vastly changed. As a result we find ourselves hiding our true selves and even being criticized for the very traits that made us unique and beautiful.  Women leaders in technology and business perhaps face this challenge more than other groups do. We have all  learned to navigate this world in different ways.

In Margaret's keynote she will show us how to ‘Let Your Light Shine’ with 7 Winning Strategies for Women in the Workplace

  1. Be yourself and be passionate. Surround yourself with people who believe & support you, and keep your inner light kindled always in spite of the critics and societal guidelines
  2. Jump off the ladder to take on new challenges – Take the plunge, take on new risks, and live new experiences.
  3. Look for open doors and walk through them – Look for and leap into new learning opportunities, even if it takes you on a totally different journey. If the opportunity is not successful, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you are not capable, maybe it’s just not the right fit
  4. Learn how to navigate the business world without losing you.  Sometimes this means toning down your light in some circumstances or learning how to direct your passion in new ways, so you can stay true to who you are and never compromise your personal ethics while still being successful in a corporate environment or a man’s world.
  5. Ask the universe (and who you know) for help:  Focus on building strong and meaningful relationships, develop mentors, and network and network some more to learn, share and exchange.  And most importantly, it’s okay to ask for help, regardless of what stage your career or development.
  6. Believe that you can land on your feet and you will. You don’t always have to know all the skillsets to succeed.
  7. Shine your light on others.  Make sure you are giving back and helping others with your gifts and talents.
