Inside the new DMA 10.20: Even more database content, cloud integration and standardized workflows

Writtten by Wayne Dalesio, HPSW Product Manager (Database and Middleware Automation)

Database technologies never stop advancing, so neither can the database automation platforms that streamline how you manage them.

HP Database and Middleware Automation 10.20, which we announced earlier today at Discover Barcelona, continues to lay the groundwork for your organization’s own automation journey, with new enhancements in support of Oracle 12c, DB2, SQL Server, WebSphere, and WebLogic as well as deeper integrations with HP Cloud and Automation products.

HP DMA 10.20 gives you out of the box content and heterogeneous Cloud support for new relational database, application server and operating system releases and platforms, introducing over 300 new use cases.

Here are just some of the highlights of the new release:

  • Oracle 12c — lifecycle management features are now fully supported for Oracle 12c, including discovery, provisioning, patching, compliance checking, code release management, upgrades from prior Oracle releases, and test data management. This includes support for new features of Oracle 12c (such as Container Database instances)
  • DB2 10.x — Management of DB2 has been extended to DB2 10.x for discovery, provisioning, patching and upgrades
  • SQL Server — Supports in-place upgrades from SQL Server 2000, 2005, and 2008 to SQL Server 2012, plus SQL Server 2012 now supports full lifecycle management capabilities
  • WebSphere — WebSphere 8.5 and 8.5.5 are now supported

In all, nearly 20 new enhancements have been added to support WebLogic, Oracle, and SQL Server.

Another significant focus for this release was to standardize many workflows with improved prerequisite checking, which moves validations  to the first steps of a workflow. We’ve also standardized workflow naming conventions to simplify administration.

HP portfolio integrations

We’ve also made big strides in how HP DMA integrates with the broader portfolio of HP cloud and automation products. HP DMA 10.20 now supports:

  • HP Server Automation Virtual Appliance (SAVA) version 10.x (also known as HP Server Automation Premium Edition), which eases installation and delivers quick time-to-value. HP DMA infrastructure now leverages all the benefits of HP Server Automation
  • Integration with HP Operations Orchestration 10.01, enabling HP DMA deployments to be referenced directly within HP Operations Orchestration Developer Studio for seamless authoring of HP DMA activities within an HP Operations Orchestration workflow. This allows IT operations teams to create simplified process flows for database and middleware tasks such as patching, upgrades, compliance checks and code deployments
  • Improved integration with HP Cloud Service Automation — IT can build, deliver and operate Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) environments, so you can seamlessly patch, upgrade, perform code releases and compliance checks as part of a service lifecycle management of databases within Cloud services

Finally, HP DMA continues its extensive ecosystem support to centrally deliver value across multi-vendor heterogeneous environments.

In all, this new release definitely extends the leadership of HP DMA as the most comprehensive solution in the market for managing the complete lifecycle of database and middleware.
