How easy is it to integrate with HP CSA? Find out at HP Discover!

As enterprises deploy private or hybrid clouds, IT organizations will need their various cloud services to work well together. This need to operate within multiple cloud environments is why we developed HP Cloud Service Automation (CSA). It features close integration capabilities with multiple HP offerings, such as HP Asset Manager, HP Service Manager, HP TippingPoint, and HP Executive Scorecard. By leveraging our broad software management expertise, HP CSA’s open, extensible architecture supports advanced IT operations management capabilities including:

  • Security
  • Performance management
  • Compliance
  • Resource management
  • Financial reporting

Read on to see how some of these platforms are working in conjunction with HP CSA today, to help you get the most out of cloud services.

1. Managing asset utilization with HP Asset Manager (AM)

Within any IT organization, it’s important to assign asset utilization correctly. This  ensures the departments that use the most IT resources are providing appropriate levels of financial budgetary support. This type of information is tracked by HP AM, which uses HP CSA API to collect data about cloud services that can then be included in monthly or weekly reports about what was consumed and at what cost. HP AM also tracks the usage of seat licenses associated with certain types of software or cloud resources—now enterprises can make sure they’re are not using the software in a way that contravenes the agreement that they have signed with the vendor.

In HP CSA, a specific cost is applied to each service offering. By integrating HP CSA with HP AM, we now have the added functionality of reporting on the total cost of actual usage by a group or an individual user. Now IT can have better control on cloud resource utilization during projects, provide guidelines for future project teams to budget more accurately and provide visibility into how their organization consumes cloud resources.

2. Managing approval processes through HP Service Manager (SM)

HP SM integrates with HP CSA’s API to extract data from HP CSA.—in this case, to help manage the approval processes. When a cloud service offering is requested within HP CSA, a setting determines whether the offering has a “passive” or “active” approval process. Any active, external approval process is managed through HP SM; a ticket is created and sent to the manager to receive approvals.

If physical provisioning is required, HP SM processes whether the specific server is available in inventory, and delivers the ticket to the IT personnel to complete the task and report when provisioning is complete. HP SM integration is vital for many organizations because it allows them to fold existing IT approval and provisioning processes into HP CSA’s cloud service offerings.

3. Managing intrusion protection from HP TippingPoint

HP TippingPoint is another established, trusted HP solution that can be integrated with HP CSA. Specifically, HP TippingPoint can be built into Service Design lifecycles as an action.   Now this advanced networking security solution is enabled automatically to begin monitoring traffic from the Internet to the data center and warn of any hacking or Denial of Service attacks. For organizations that already rely on HP TippingPoint to protect their environments, HP CSA integration maintains the security and adds a layer of automation that streamlines provisioning for private and hybrid cloud deployments.

4. Ensuring SLA performance using HP SiteScope

Some services within an enterprise’s HP CSA will come with Service Level Agreements and performance guarantees. Integrating HP SiteScope within HP CSA provides IT with the monitoring capabilities to trigger operations based on specific performance benchmarks and SLA violations. For example, if a database cluster requires a specific level of availability and a node goes down, HP SiteScope will automatically identify the issue and create another server in the cluster to share the load. This offers cloud administrators a flexible approach to maintain performance levels based on an SLA without over-provisioning service resources at the outset.
