HP Helion Awarded the Latest in SOC Certifications

Guest Author: Jeff Moyer, Senior Director, Cloud and Data Center Services HP Enterprise Services

HP Helion Managed Virtual Private Cloud  (Managed VPC) has been awarded SOC 2  and SOC 3  certifications based on the architecture and processes in place for security, availability, and confidentiality.

These new certifications mark a major milestone, and provide enterprises with the assurance that moving to the HP Helion cloud is safe for the transition to the New Style of IT. Additionally these reports show how Managed VPC meets many of the security requirements common to most regulatory authorities.

The audits included a review of:

  1. Security – How HP has architected the solution to prevent unauthorized access and ensure common security threats are addressed.
  2. Availability – How HP ensures the service is available to the expectations of the customer and downtime is limited and managed appropriately.
  3. Confidentiality – How HP ensures data is accessible only by appropriate people.

This achievement also substantiates our process integrity in terms of how HP ensures completeness and accuracy of data, and timeliness and appropriate authorization of access.

Leading the Industry

The combined certifications testify that we have achieved the SOC criteria requirements clients and partners require in their transition to the New Style of IT.

  • We are certified on 3 of the 4 criteria (security, availability, confidentiality) vs. the industry standard of only a single criteria assessment. Integrity is the fourth criteria.
  • Our assessment included the complete infrastructure and associated processes. The industry standard is for a narrow audit of specific components. We completed a “no gap audit” which provides transparency with a comprehensive assessment of the end-to-end offering.
  • We received Unqualified Results for our client managed OS environments. This means the auditors found not a single mark against us. This is a reflection of the global consistency of our service.

Why SOC 2 and SOC 3 matters?

Enterprises using cloud computing are still accountable to their board, shareholders, customers, employees, business partners, and regulators for tasks undertaken by their service provider. With our SOC certifications, clients have confidence that the security, availability, processing integration of the system, and the confidentiality and privacy of information used by the system have met the most rigorous requirements.
