Around the HP Cloud (week ending Feb. 4, 2011)

photo.JPGUnlike me, who is completely snowed in (at least by Texas standards), the cloud momentum continues to move this week around HP.  With last week’s announcement on cloud and hybrid delivery, we had several blog posts and tools that help you analyze where you are in the cloud.  Check out some new assessment tools that are available to help you in determining what’s best for your data center.

New cloud assessment tools and demos

Speaking of assessment tools, Patrick Eitenbichler asks in his recent blog post, do you really know what's in your datacenter? Take the time to perform a business service assessment that creates a complete list of all the business services your IT organization provides to your company. From there, you can better evaluate your need for a converged infrastructure environment or private cloud environment.

In a world where everything is mobile, connected, interactive, immediate and fluid—businesses must react to the speed of the market and even reinvent their business on the fly.  Need help to get started? The HP Converged Infrastructure Maturity Model can help you.

Klaus Brand blogs about how as part of a recent announcement, HP introduced HP Cloud Maps for SAP which accelerate automation of SAP applications so you can reliably and consistently fast track the implementation of service catalogues. If you have an IT shop with SAP, you will find this of interest.

With HP Enterprise Cloud Services—Compute, you get everything you need to run and securely access key applications over a network without investing in assets or processes you don’t need.  View the demo or learn more now.

Ready to embrace the cloud

Which comes first: your business goals or the technology solution? The Next Big Thing blogger, Charlie Bess, asks if and why organizations need a cloud strategy. Join the discussion and learn more about HP’s cloud discovery workshop.

How do you embrace the benefits of cloud while effectively managing and controlling this multi-sourced IT world?  Hybrid delivery models that are incorrectly managed can increase complexity, risk and costs, negating the potential benefits of cloud computing. Christian Verstraete presented at a conference recently and we’ve posted his slides on the topic “Can I put my datacenter on steroids?”  The presentation covers the need to change the ratio spent on operations and innovation, the efficiency of cloud datacenters and hybrid delivery.

Just for fun

And just in time for the big game, check out how the Dallas Cowboys unveiled an ultra-modern stadium run with a powerful data center built by HP.

Enjoy the big game and try to stay warm!  See you around the HP Cloud.
