HP Discover: Taking Action!

I never managed to leave the exhibit hall at HP Discover in Las Vegas until I had to catch my flight home. It was not the shows, not the tables and not the people watching. It was the non-stop action, interest and excitement over HP Autonomy’s multichannel analytics capabilities.


The day before the event, our team started tracking social media feeds with HP Autonomy’s Explore Cloud tool -- looking at sentiment and Share-of-Voice within the key tracks like Big Data, Moonshot, Security, Mobility, and Cloud.  The volume of data we garnered over the proceeding days was impressive, as we as the result. Working with our Critical Mass partners, we were able to analyze the flood of data through our latest Cloud version of Explore and deliver easy-to-consume, actionable insights.


These insights were not without humor. I was showing clients how Autonomy IDOL was clustering all the social conversations leading up to and during Meg Whitman’s keynote. All of a sudden, a cluster simply titled “Bacon” showed up on the trending page.  I thought to myself, “This is not good…I am trying to show a prospect how impressive our technology is in understanding content and realizing new trending patterns but instead, I’ve been spammed” (apologies for the pun). Trying to make the best of a seemingly unfortunate situation, I started explaining the emergence of pork in my topic map. Then it was brought to my attention that at that very same moment, Kevin Bacon was in fact onstage with Meg. IDOL picked up the real-time tweets and introduced it as a new topic. IDOL is one step ahead once again…


Another highlight during my time at HP Discover was the Aurasma demonstration. Sure, there was an impressive life size Iron Man figure which was drawing in attendees but for me, it was more the idea of  Aurasma serving  as a window into our technological future. The future of how people will communicate via augmented reality. If you think getting your technology to understand 2D images from social platforms like Tumblr is difficult, then think of the challenge Aurasma will pose when it emerges as yet another customer channel. But this challenge becomes a huge opportunity with technology like Autonomy IDOL.  It’s the only hope in understanding, at scale, what these Auras will represent so you can act on them. I spoke at four sessions during Discover, and action was the main talking point during exchanges with the audience during all of them. Getting insight into your data is pretty useless until you are able to act on it. Autonomy Explore Cloud is about gleaning insight from live data and then teeing up action. All week, we were acting on insight from the event, itself. We could see  trends in the data and were able to tune our presentation messages, inform our infographics and deepen our 1:1 conversations with customers.


We are now chock full of ideas from this event and cannot wait for Barcelona. Hasta Luego…
