Right forum for questions on HP IP-based KVM's?

Does anybody know whether the names given to the systems connected to the KVM (and seen in the OSD) are stored in the dongle? I mounted a new KVM and was surprised to see the names of the servers of which this KVM was innocent, staring at me from the OSD.

I have other questions, too.

Yes it is stored in the dongle.

I don't know much aboute it, but I do know that.

But I believe that i should change, as soon as it get a new node name, fom the host.

You're welcome.

Did you try it?

And did it change?

I accomplished what I needed, in terms of inventorying and labeling the KVM cables. I didn't try switching the dongles between wires, though, to see if the name would stay when the dongle were in the circuit between the kvm and a different server.

If you have to reuse a dongle, for another server, in the future, you will see if I'm reight or wrong.

Yes, I had to move a dongle from one server to another this afternoon. I didn't change the port on the KVM into which it was plugged -- just plugged the wire into anoher server.

So it might have been the KVM port, remaining the same.

Didn't it change the server name?

It will have to under stand the servername from the OS (And maybe the ILo).

I will try and ask, in the new year.
Could a colleage know.
