This Just in From APPSEC APAC in Japan

IMG_20140319_100453_306[1].jpgThe OWASP Japan Chapter  hosted the Global AppSec APAC 2014 Conference this week. Just a few years ago there was no OWASP chapter in Japan but this chapter has shown the most rapid growth of an OWASP chapter ever, rivaled only by their enthusiasm. This event was attended by over 400 enthusiasts, not bad for a chapter that has only existed since 2011. And earlier this year Japan's second chapter was born in Kansai. The future of APPSEC is alive and well in Japan.

You knew right away you weren't in New York City. The APPSEC APAC logo is a Sumo wrestler, and at least half of the talks were in Japanese. But no need to panic, individual translation headsets were available, translating from Japanese to English on one channel and from English to Japanese on the other.

The event saw the usual suspects: sessions on the Mobile Top 10, talks on the future of AppSec, and of course no event would be complete without sessions on the latest discussions on technologies such as HTML5 and SaaS-based WAFs. All preceded by 2 days of training sessions.

We saw a strong interest on the floor in HP's Fortify on Demand offering. We were constantly working in the FOD portal live on the big screen and it attracted the attention of everyone who came by. In between sessions and in the evenings there were networking events and of course impromptu "break-out sessions" at various local establishments.

I will definitely be going back in 2015. Register early!
