8500 fax problems

Just set this up and can not fax. Using the Document feeder to fax, but when I put the number in, it starts dialing right after the first digit is dialed. Also, I am unable to fax to it, I get a busy signal every time.

Re: 8500 fax problems

Stephan,

Do you have a LaserJet or a OfficeJet 8500?

No VOIP system, just a stand alone system.

Re: 8500 fax problems

Stephan,

Try to find a telephone and connect it to your fax line. Pick up the handset, check for a dial tone and make an outgoing call. If possible, have someone try to call you on that line with the telephone conneected too. That will help you isolate where the busy signal is coming from.

If the telephone can detect a busy signal then your Service Provider will have to correct it. If the telephone cannot detect a busy signal then the problem is most likley related to your fax machine. You should power off or restore the defaults to reset the fax modem and correct that kind of a problem.

VOIP is a type of service that is normally provided by large ISP's such as Comcast, Charter, Qwest or ATT. Other common types of voice service are DSL and Analog.

Re: 8500 fax problems

This is setup in a work environment, the phone line is your standard everyday line, nothing special about it. They had another printer, same style, shape and brand, just a newer model. I am unable to fax to it as well as from it. Thanks for the replies, I should be heading over soon, I hope.
