Today at HP Discover Vienna, HP announced a new predictive analytics tool within HP’s Business Service Management portfolio called Service Health Analyzer (SHA) that will help IT…

Helping IT run like a business with metrics that matter

shane pearson.jpgBy Shane Pearson, Vice President, Product Marketing, HP Software

In his current role, Pearson is responsible for managing the Operations Management product portfolio.

There’s no question that IT and business are interdependent.  IT often is the driving force behind company success.   It’s just that it’s not always easy to explain or show the value that IT brings, especially to business partners. Why?  Based on studies by HP and independent analysts, as much as 70 percent of the IT budget and 50 percent of the IT people resources are part of an organization managed by a VP of  Operations or similar title.   With the HP IT Performance Suite, VP of Operations Edition our goal is to provide the VP of Operations the tools to define, measure and show value based on key performance indicators.

Management by Excel is dead: Welcome IT leaders

Brad Hipps leads HP IT Performance Suite applications solutions marketing for HP. Before signing on with HP, he was senior vice president of service delivery for EzGov, a company that builds and manages enterprise web solutions for national governments. Previously, as a manager for Accenture, Brad worked on large-scale process re-engineering and systems development in the United States and Europe. He is the co-author of The Applications Handbook: A Guide to Mastering the Modern Application Lifecycle.

Spreadsheets are a legacy process for what the average IT leader used when he managed his first application delivery project. Yet, legacy processes still plague today’s IT departments with outdated methods that don’t have the ability to keep up with the new realities of application delivery.

Optimize IT performance with 4 big announcements from Discover Vienna

175x113_Live-Coverage.gifI’m here on the first day of HP Discover Vienna meeting with customers, talking to colleagues and making as many videos as humanly possible (look for my end-of-day video wrap ups on this blog, and go to Backstage Discover Vienna for full coverage).

But for now I wanted to talk about the four big announcements coming out of the show. In a nutshell, these solutions are designed to help our clients achieve two things:

1.      get applications innovations to market faster, at lower cost and improved availability, security and compliance

2.      simplify the process of connecting what were previously silos of IT management information and turning that information into valuable insight

Community versus conference - why atoms trump electrons

Don't get me wrong. I love the cost and convenience benefits that social and social business technology enables. The ability to easily share ideas, best-practices and experiences cheaply and quickly has done so much to bring us together while accelerating innovation, however there are times when electrons just can't substitute the real thing.
