What’s the value of IT? A CIO and CFO face off in a Discover Performance webcast

conference room.jpgWhat does IT have to do to prove its value to finance? Why doesn’t finance “get” IT? To settle this ongoing debate we decided to get a CIO and a CFO in a room and … well, we’ll step in before anyone gets hurt.

We’re excited to invite readers to “CIOs and CFOs: Can this relationship be saved?” the first Discover Performance webcast in a series of discussions about IT strategy and performance. To kick things off, we’ve brought two seasoned executives together to talk frankly about IT value and how the relationship between IT and the business is changing.

Our host is Michael Krieger, who began his IT career in the 1970s as a mainframe programmer. Since then he’s held a number of senior product marketing positions, served as VP of Ziff Davis’ Market Expert team, and is now at ConStat an industry-leading market research firm that focuses on the high-tech industry. He most recently was Master of Ceremonies and panel moderator for the May 2012 CloudSlam conference in San Francisco.

In the CIO corner we have Toby Redshaw. Currently CEO of Kevington Advisors, Toby has contributed from both the business and CIO perspectives at companies like FedEx, Motorola, American Express and Aviva. As CIO for both American Express in New York and Aviva in London, and in senior IT leadership roles at Motorola and FedEx, Toby has led 10,000+ member IT teams and multi-billion dollar budgets. He was a key member of the team that took FedEx global and built the brand outside the U.S.

Representing the CFO point of view is Sean Sloan, turnaround and crisis management CFO who specializes in consulting on profit improvement and strategic decision making. Since 1991 he’s improved profit & loss performance by more than half a billion dollars for the companies he’s worked with.
