Mobility 2020 : Paolo's big date, part III

When Paolo is within 20 minutes of his house, he remotely turns on the hot tub (one thing Paolo doesn’t lack is optimism). As he walks towards his house, the security systems recognize him and disable themselves.

Once in situ in the kitchen, Paolo selects the rustic coq au vin recipe on his cooker’s screen. The cooker then takes him thru the steps required to make the meal. It even suggests that he might like to chill the wine.

When he’s finished cooking, Paolo erases all traces of having used a recipe - after all, all great French chefs have the classic dishes in their heads (or so Paolo believes).

The evening goes well. The coq au vin is actually very good and the wine is worth the price. When Suzanne isn’t looking, he turns off the hot tub - he realizes that that would be one step too far on the first date.

The end-of-evening peck on the cheek at the front door turns into a passionate kiss. Unbeknown to Paolo, Suzanne has a mild congenital heart condition. She has a series of sensors in her arteries that measure cholesterol, homocysteine, c-reactive protein, and blood pressure. This information then goes to a high-uptime monitor on her belt.

Suzanne had forgotten to turn off the monitor and the passion of Paolo’s kiss sets off the blood pressure alarm.

Shaking, Suzanne explains that her Sicilian grandfather is very, very protective and that this alarm will bring “his people” running. Paolo is terrified. Laughing, Suzanne says, “Paulo, I’m only kidding. My grandfather is no more Sicilian than your grandmother was French!  But - I really can cook a great lasagne. How about we have lasagne next Saturday?”

As Suzanne backs out of his drive, Paolo congratulates himself on pulling off a successful evening, conveniently forgetting all the help he received from "mobility 2020" along the way.
