Yours Truly Designer rules - Scale to fit text?

I'm trying to "scale to fit" text in a variable data box. How do I indicate this in the rules area? I can only seem to specify an exact value for text size.
Please help!!!

Re: Yours Truly Designer rules - Scale to fit text?

Assuming you are using SmartStream Designer  for InDesign - use the LENGTH rule:

Example:
IF(LENGTH(FIELD("Name"))>"10")
THEN(SIZE("8"))
ELSE(IF(LENGTH(FIELD("Name"))>"8")
THEN(SIZE("10"))
ELSE(IF(LENGTH(FIELD("Name"))>"4")
THEN(SIZE("12"))
ELSE(SIZE("14"))))

When the following statement is true:
Length of the field "Name" is more than 10 characters
The font size is 8.
Otherwise, When the following statement is true:
Length of the field "Name" is more than 8 characters
The font size is 10.
Otherwise, When the following statement is true:
Length of the field "Name" is more than 4 characters
The font size is 12.
Otherwise, The font size is 14.

Re: Yours Truly Designer rules - Scale to fit text?

With SmartStream Designer 5.1, for InDesign CS5, you may double-click the Channel row in the channel palette, and check "Fit Text on Overflow" option.

The Point size of fixed and variable text will be reduced to fit to channel’s frame
