pre and post execution scripts on HP Data Protector

[ Edited ]

Hi,

I have a request from our customer to activate the pre and post execution scripts for backup job; in order to start and shutdown oracle or SQL database automatically.

Please advise if we need any type of HP DP License to implement this option and how can we get these scripts.

Regards,

Emad

Re: pre and post execution scripts on HP Data Protector

You do not need any extra DP license in order to use Pre and post exec scripts.

Your customer's Oracle and/or SQL Database Administrator (DBA) should write the scripts to shutdown, and restart either Oracle and/or SQL as required.

Re: pre and post execution scripts on HP Data Protector

Hi,

when Oracle is shutdown before the backup, you do not need any license to backup the ORADATA files. You have to create two script placed in C:\program files\omniback\bin or /opt/omni/lbin. The scripts must include the commands to stop or start the database.

I personally recommend to backup Oracle databases using the online integration (license required) as it gives you more flexibility in case of restores. If not applicable you can use a custom rman script too, to dump the database into filesystem before the backup is done. In this case you do not need to shutdown the database.

Best regards

Daniel
