p2000 vss agent required?

HelloI

have registered evaluation version of data protector 8.0. I want to run it with hyperv cluster. I cannot create backups of VMs using hyperv client types. I think this can be related with my array: P2000. According with data sheet HP DP should support this array. But I don't see any VSS agent to this array on the software DVD. How can i aquire this VSS agent?

Re: p2000 vss agent required?

According to the VSS support matrix,  http://support.openview.hp.com/selfsolve/document/KM00453104,

HP P2000 Modular Storage Array Systems

  MSA2000  supported version 2.7.0.0 for
Windows 2003
Windows 2008
Windows 2008 R2  (LUN Sync is not supported)

so, I would check the P2000 version first

There is no specific VSS component for P2000, there is only the VSS component

In the Zero Downtime Backup Admin Guide

http://support.openview.hp.com/selfsolve/document/KM00452471?searchIdentifier=55add992%3a14642351449...=

I see integrations for the P4000, P6000 and P9000, but nothing for the P2000

Checking the VSS Integration Guide

http://support.openview.hp.com/selfsolve/document/KM00452433?searchIdentifier=55add992%3a14642351449...=

there is no mention of P2000, so, there is apparently nothing special that needs to be done about using this disk array

Re: p2000 vss agent required?

I used virtualization guide (provides with ISO image). My testing lab is:

- 2 hyper-v servers in cluster on win2012 r2

- 1 server with library. This is cell manager.

I tried to add two servers from cluster as hyper-v cluster. This works in sense that I see cluster and the VMs but i cannot run backup. I get error abut VSS agent. I can provide logs Today if you can specify what files i need to search for errors...

I tried to use google but I didn't get anywhere

Re: p2000 vss agent required?

Just start the backup, and capture any messages as a 'txt' file

As you can see I have my backup server hpsudb and two hyperv nodes: hv1 and hv2.

Let me be clear: I wish to use Hyper-V backup and i used (according to Virtual Intergration Guide) VSS transport. Yes I tried to use Local or Network. I had other error "Respornse*8012" or something like that in my error dialog window. The Vss Transport allows me to chosse VMs from hyperv cluster and it created backup policy. But I cannot run it properly...

I can make more dumps on wendsday and just say me what to do/make

Re: p2000 vss agent required?

You will need to open  support case withthe response center to get this problem diagnosed

[Normal] From: VEPALIB_HYPERV@hpsudb.sudb.local "HyperV" Time: 6/9/2014 4:13:54 AM
Error during start of VSSBar.

I did find out that this can be the result of some firewall issues

"Customer had some  HPSec blades (firewall ) environment  with source  nating   , this are  turned off now  and this issue has been resolved."

IN another case, the VSS component was not installed on the Hyper-V cluster

In reviewing the Virtualization Integration Guide, I found a couple of limitations that may apply to you

NOTE:

In a Microsoft Hyper-V cluster environment, a local backup using the VSS hardware

provider is not supported. This is a Microsoft product limitation.

NOTE:

In a Microsoft Hyper-V cluster environment, the backup host cannot be a virtual

machine running on one of the Microsoft Hyper-V systems. This is a Microsoft product limitation

Virtual machine storage

Due to a Microsoft Hyper-V VSS writer limitation, the following cannot be backed up:

Data residing on physical disks

that are attached directly to virtual machines.

Data residing on storage that is accessed directly by virtual machines using iSCSI initiators.

For details, search for the terms “Hyper-V, Planning for Backup” in the Microsoft TechNet library.
