installing HP-UX data protector agents

I'm using a windows cell manager and want to add my 3 hp-ux 11.31 IA64 systems in.
from the install CD, i've run .omnisetup.sh -server servername -install da.

but i get:

Packets going to be (re)installed: omnicf da

Unpacking selected packets from CD, please wait (5-10 minutes)...
Unpacking complete!

Installing Core (omnicf)...

Setup cannot continue, Installation of Data Protector Core packet failed.

i've tried specifying full pathnames, same problems.

any ideas?

thanks.

Re: installing HP-UX data protector agents

Mandosa,

Check /tmp for an sd-log file which may tell why the install failed. Sometimes this is simply because there isn't enough space in /tmp. Since you didn't state what version of DP you're working with, I'll assume it may be 6.0. If that's the case, HP has told us that we would need to download the ISO image for 6.0 to install on 11.31. You may want to do that if you see nothing of importance from the log.

Eric

Re: installing HP-UX data protector agents

Hi,

Is the media version you are using new enough to support 11.31 IA64 clients?

I would download the latest UNIX version for whatever version of DP you are using and try and use that.

You should also make sure that your Windows Cell is patched up to date.

Hope this helps,
Paul

Re: installing HP-UX data protector agents

What CD are you using? What's the name and part number?

Have you restarted swagentd and tried the install again?

swagentd -r

Re: installing HP-UX data protector agents

i downloaded the latest IA64 version and same problem.
/var/tmp/swagent.log shows:

An attempt to get the network host entry for "my_ip_#"
failed. This may result in denial of access to users and
agents at this host. Check the spelling of this name, then
your "/etc/hosts" file, or your "/etc/resolv.conf" file and
DNS resolver configuration. The nslookup program may be
helpful in isolating this problem.
* Agent session started for user "root@my_ip_#".

entries in host file. dns is working fine. nslookup indicates this is working properly.

Re: installing HP-UX data protector agents

Mandosa,

Seems like a name resolution problem.

Do you get the same error on all 3 systems?
Try setting nsswitch.conf to files first and then dns. Restart swagentd (swagentd -r) and try the install again.

Re: installing HP-UX data protector agents

copied nsswitch.files to nsswitch.conf.
dns error is gone from /var/tmp/swagent.log, but /tmp/Core.sd-log still shows:

* Target connection succeeded for "spruce:/".
* "spruce:/tmp/omni_tmp/packet": Cannot open the logfile on
this target or source. Possibly the media is read-only or

Re: installing HP-UX data protector agents

Hello,
I am managed to instal CM and IS on ia64 with UX 11.31, patched it with latest CORE patch and DB2 patch but from there I am not able to install any other patches. DA, MA and CC was automaticaly installed with CM but I can't even reinstall them now.
reinstall fails with:

Packets going to be (re)installed: omnicf da

Unpacking selected packets from CD, please wait (5-10 minutes)...
Unpacking complete!

Installing Core (omnicf)...

Setup cannot continue, Installation of Data Protector Core packet failed.
host:(/mnt/sapmedia/dp60/patches)(root)#

### Core.sk-log:

* Beginning Selection
* Target connection succeeded for "host:/".
* "host:/tmp/omni_tmp/packet": Cannot open the logfile on
this target or source. Possibly the media is read-only or
there is a permission problem. Check the daemon logfile and
"/var/tmp/swagent.log" on this host for more information.
ERROR: Could not apply the software selection "DATA-PROTECTOR"
because there are no product variations that are compatible
with the destination host(s).
* Software selection failed for
"host:/tmp/omni_tmp/packet".
ERROR: No software has been selected.
ERROR: Cannot continue the "swinstall" task.
* Selection had errors.

### when I try to patch DA or MA or CC I am getting this error:

swinstall -x autoreboot=true -x patch_match_target=true -s /mnt/sapmedia/dp60/patches/PHSS_38409.depot

* Beginning Selection
* Target connection succeeded for "host:/".
NOTE: The patch match operation failed to find patches for target
software on "host" which passed the filter.
NOTE: Cannot continue the "swinstall" task.

I'm able to manualy push instalation of this patch using utils.tar and packet.Z but that is useless for me as it's IS and I need those patches installed so it can be remotely pushed to other hosts.

omnicheck -patches

but when I add new host, it's not patched with latest DA and MA patches. does anybody solved this before? thanks for any help.

Re: installing HP-UX data protector agents

for those who just needs manualy patch one system here is how to:

open instalation CD and find utils.tar for your platform and OS
then:

# tar xvf utils.tar

you will get this:

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 13243 Jun 17 10:59 omni_chk_ds.sh
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 17817 Jun 17 10:59 omni_chk_vers.sh
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 6422 Jun 17 10:59 omni_de_inst.sh
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 23624 Jun 17 10:59 omni_rinst.sh -------------> install script
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1 Jun 17 10:59 socket.dat
-r--r--r-- 1 root root 13077 Jun 17 10:59 utils.tar

exctract files from patch depot

#file PHSS_38409.depot
PHSS_38409.depot: tar file

#tar xvf PHSS_38409.depot

then search for packet.Z for your OS and platform

#find ./ -name packet.Z |grep ia64|grep 113

./PHSS_38409/OMNI-HPUX-P/opt/omni/databases/vendor/da/hp/sia64/hp-ux-113x/A.06.00/packet.Z

then execute

#./omni_rinst.sh /packet.Z da A.06.00 hp/sia64/hp-ux-113x /etc/opt/omni

./omni_rinst.sh - install script
/tmp/omni_tmp/core/packet.Z full patch to packet.Z
da - component that you are installing
A.06.00 - version - you get this from path to packet.Z
hp/sia64/hp-ux-113x - series (you get this from path to packet.Z)
/etc/opt/omni - where is DP installed

that's all

Re: installing HP-UX data protector agents

swinstall -s /mnt/sapmedia/dp60/patches/PHSS_38409.depot PHSS_38409

now DA patch is correctly installed.
