Tape Drives and Medium Changer devices on a Hyper V server

Hello all,

I currently have a new Hyper -V guest server (Windows 2008 - 64 bit). I am able to install our tape drives and Medium Changer Devices on the host Hyper-V host server but not able to get them in Device Manager on the guest server.  I was able to install the drivers but the drives not not come up when I do a new hardware scan.

How can I get the drives to show up on the Hyper V guest servers to I can back them up?

~ Thanks

Re: Tape Drives and Medium Changer devices on a Hyper V server

Actually we have a HP MSL 6000 Media Changer and I cannot install it on any DP clients, not just VM's. So I guess I am just asking how to setup the drives on a DP client so I can back it up?

If your clients are fiber attached then you can zone the NSR's from the MSL6000 to the clients.

Hi Bobby,

Would you post out for this command:

C:\Program Files\OmniBack>devbra -dev

from Hyper-V hosts.

No I do not see the drives in Device Manager.

I am not sure I mention this but the server is a Hyper-V guest. The Hyper-v host does see the drives.

I think I found the problem. I can assign the drive via the NSR

Yep, the NSR requires for assign robotic and drives using maps to a single or multiple hosts. This is the way it does the access control. Please mark this topic as resolved.
