StoreOnce - Server-side deduplication - Gateway - no Windows Server 2003

Hi guys,

I have a test environment of a software StoreOnce, which I cannot test it because of two problems:

1. Source-side deduplication is not working because of a bug. A case is open, but not solved.

2. Server-side deduplication is not working for all my clients, because I'm not able to select a Windows 2003 server.

Just 2008 or higher are available to add as a gateway.

On all server, 2k3 or 2k8, are the same components installed. (DA,MA,SAP R/3,MS VSCI,ADRM)

Is there a restriction for Windows Server 2003?

Thanks for any help!

Best regards,

Tobias

It's only the Gateway that needs to be 64bit.  You can still backup Windows Server 2003 32bit clients.

Hi Jeremy,

So if all of my clients have a 64bit OS installed, I should be able to set up a Server-Side Dedup Gateway even the client OS is Windows Server 2003?

Which statement is right now?

Thanks.

You can set up the Gateway on a media agent which needs to be 64 bit.

On a normal backup client you just need to install the Disk Agent.

Re: StoreOnce - Server-side deduplication - Gateway - no Windows Server 2003

That is the point that confused me ..

I see the following client platform in DP:

microsoft amd64 wNT-5.2-S

microsoft amd64 wNT-6.0-S

microsoft amd64 wNT-6.1-S

All clients have a media agent (64bit) installed.

But I just can select server with the platform 6.0 and higher.

Where can I find the supported systems, like this from the second post?:

Supported platforms:
• Windows Server 2008, 2008 R2, 2012, 2012 R2 (64-bit)(x64)
• Linux (64-bit): Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.x and 6.x (x64)

Thanks!

Re: StoreOnce - Server-side deduplication - Gateway - no Windows Server 2003

Hi Tobias.
In your DP installation, you'll find a directory called 'Docs'. This has a sub-directory called 'support_matrices', which contains a file called Platform_Integrtn_SupportMatrix.pdf (among others). Just search for 'StoreOnce' and you'll find the list of supported platforms for that feature.
Essentially, you can only create stores on Windows 2008 and 2012 (x64) or specific x64 Linux distributions. Your gateways can also only be on such platforms. You can back up data from other platforms, but source-side dedupe is ruled for them. Only target/server side dedupe is possible in that scenario.
