Re: HP Data Protector 8, IDB Problem backup - Error while running the PSQL script

I discovered the following behaviour:

-"Dirty" upgrade from DP6.2 to 8: IDB corruption, completely not able to backup (because it was corrupted)

-Clean upgrade from DP6.2 to DP8: (cleaned the DP6 DB, removed some very old systems that popped up, etc.): IDB fine, unable to backup: [Critical] From: OB2BAR_POSTGRES_BAR@srv-cellman "DPIDB"  Time: 7/10/2013 10:56:15 AM
Error while running the PSQL script

-I then exported the DP8 database, created a new, clean one (omnidbinit -force), retried the backup with a new writer, still the same error.

-Test DP8 virtual machine (clean install): IDB backs up fine.

Seems like HP needs to release a patch that allows you to backup the IDB after an upgrade from an older version of DP. Until that time, we are back to DP6.2. We need our backups working, already spent 4 days upgrading to DP8 which ultimately failed.

Re: HP Data Protector 8, IDB Problem backup - Error while running the PSQL script

Problem
The Internal Database backup fails
The session for backing up the Data Protector Internal Database fails with the following error:
[Critical] From: OB2BAR_POSTGRES_BAR@computer.company.com "DPIDB" Time: 4/2/2013 4:05:20 PM
Error while running the PSQL script
[Normal] From: BSM@computer.company.com "idb" Time: 4/2/2013 4:05:20 PM
OB2BAR application on "computer.company.com" disconnected.
[Critical] From: BSM@computer.company.com "idb" Time: 4/2/2013 4:05:20 PM
None of the Disk Agents completed successfully. Session has failed.
If the Data Protector Inet service is running under a domain user account, the problem is most
probably caused by insufficient Security Policy privileges for that account.
Action
Grant the Windows domain user account that is used for the Data Protector Inet service the following
Windows operating system Security Policy privileges, and restart the session afterwards:
• Impersonate a client after authentication
• Replace a process level token
For more information, see the HP Data Protector Help index: “Inet user impersonation”.

Re: HP Data Protector 8, IDB Problem backup - Error while running the PSQL script

Thierry,

thanks for the input. Unfortunately, the Cell Manager is not part of a domain so this did not help. Just to be sure, I tried it anyway and restarted the inet service under the local administrator account (it ran under Local System) but that did not help also.

I opened a call with HP and let you guys know if I have a solution.

Hello All

Please run DP INET service under Local System user and try to run backup again.

Re: HP Data Protector 8, IDB Problem backup - Error while running the PSQL script

JBasilio: that does not help. It does not matter if I run the service(s) under Local System or the local Administrator account. On my virtual DP8 machine, the services run under the domain administrator account (that machine is part of a domain), except for Inet which runs under Local System. So that is NOT the issue.

Re: HP Data Protector 8, IDB Problem backup - Error while running the PSQL script

Hello Arjan

I have got to reproduce issue running DP inet under domain user.

[Critical] From: OB2BAR_POSTGRES_BAR@juliana.dpteam.com "DPIDB"  Time: 16/07/2013 12:43:40
Error while running the PSQL script

Debug.log file showed following error:

16/07/2013 12:43:40  OB2BAR_POSTGRES_BAR.12080.1660 ["/lib/cmn/win32exe.c $Rev: 35470 $ $Date:: 2013-01-14 17:58:40":451] A.08.00 b596
[CmnCreateProcess]: CreateProcessW failed: [1314] A required privilege is not held by the client.

Running DP inet under local system account backup works fine, Do you have something similar in your debug.log file?

Could you please check it looking for any entry at the same time frame that wen error happen?

Re: HP Data Protector 8, IDB Problem backup - Error while running the PSQL script

Hello JBasilio,

I looked at the file, that error does not show up for me.

It ends with:

"BsmOnCloseReconnect" found on stack, adjusted level to 2 (one or more DbgFcnOut() calls missing)

Tried configuring a smtp server in the global options file, did not help either.

Re: HP Data Protector 8, IDB Problem backup - Error while running the PSQL script

I've had a bit of luck with the following:

omnidbutil -remap_dcdir

omnidbutil -fixmpos

omnidbutil -remap_dcdir

One of my customers had a version 7 system which was upgraded to version 8; the database wouldn't back up after that because of corruption issues. The above three commands appear to have been the fix for it.

A symptom of that problem was that when I ran an IDB backup without the database check first, it gave a different error: "

cannot synchronise media management and catalog database".

This is a different problem, I think to the 1314 error found in the debug.log.

Re: HP Data Protector 8, IDB Problem backup - Error while running the PSQL script

If you are getting

[Critical] From: INET_thread_postgres_bar.exe@CELLMGR "CELLMGR" Time: 8/29/2013 2:07:18 PM
[70:24] A system error occurred when starting the target script or an agent module. The system error code reported is 1314 and the message resolves to '[1314] A required privilege is not held by the client. '.

in the session log and the following in the debug log:

8/29/2013 2:07:18 PM INET_thread_postgres_bar.exe.7532.10564 ["/lib/cmn/win32exe.c $Rev: 35470 $ $Date:: 2013-01-14 17:58:40":451] A.08.00 b596
[CmnCreateProcess]: CreateProcessW failed: [1314] A required privilege is not held by the client.

8/29/2013 2:07:18 PM INET_thread_postgres_bar.exe.7532.10564 ["/lib/cmn/win32exe.c $Rev: 35470 $ $Date:: 2013-01-14 17:58:40":246] A.08.00 b596
[CmnProcGetExitCode]: GetExitCodeProcess failed: [6] The handle is invalid.

Then I have only a vague idea of what is going wrong, but I found an easy fix. Open up the barlist specification (e.g. C:\ProgramData\Omniback\Config\Server\BarLists\idb\NAME-OF-BACKUP

See if there's a line that says "OWNER ....."

Delete that line and try the backup again.

Re: HP Data Protector 8, IDB Problem backup - Error while running the PSQL script

Solution that worked for me:

Go to C:\ProgramData\OmniBack\server\db80\pg > open postgresql.conf

Nearly at the end of the file you will see a line: archive_mode = off. Change that line to archive_mode = on > save the changes > exit the file.

Restart the DP services with omnisv –stop and omnisv –start.

Re: HP Data Protector 8, IDB Problem backup - Error while running the PSQL script

Hi

Do you know what is the diff between ON and OFF?

I am not using 8 yet but is this change required in order for the IDB backup to work?

Re: HP Data Protector 8, IDB Problem backup - Error while running the PSQL script

As explained to me by HP support, ON allows the DB to go in a backup mode, which is indeed required for a successful backup.

My test environment also had this set to ON (clean install), my production environment (upgrade from DP 6.21) had this set to off. Worth checking after an upgrade, otherwise your IDB backups will fail.

I did the above but still get the error:

Re: HP Data Protector 8, IDB Problem backup - Error while running the PSQL script

A couple of reasons for this error that I found

Set "archive_mode = on" on postgresql.conf

Check to see if this file exists

    Program Data -> Omniback -> log -> hpdp-idb-cp.pid

If it does, stop DP delete the file, and restart DP
