Dataprotector 7.01 and VMware esxi 5.1

Hi. Have anyone seen Dataprotector 7.01 and VMware esxi 5.1 working ?

According to HP esxi is not supported on Dataprotector 7.01 !

But i have heard some rumours that it is working !

Anyone ?

Its offcially not supported with existing DP software. You have to wait for the upcoming 7.01 Patches.

DP 7x works with ESXi5.1, no problems, information released at November 26th 2012, document ID: KM1363322, in attachment.

Hello,

we are not using granular recovery in 5.1 yet, it is just plugin to help better restore VM's. But there is user guide and DP manuals page, document id:KM1363248, in attachment.

Re: Dataprotector 7.01 and VMware esxi 5.1

I'm sorry! Maybe I haven't explained with details about my problem.

I've upgraded my Cell Manager from version 6.11 to 7.00 and, after that, to 7.01. I've installed a new vCenter 5.1.0 and I cannot install the vcenter plugin. Even following the procedures above.

Is there another step that I can do?

Thanks in advance!

If you did everything according my posts, probably it is good time to raise a support case to HP DP support.

Mean time I will try to setup it in our enviroment and let you know the results.

Re: Dataprotector 7.01 and VMware esxi 5.1

Hi,

The DP ( all versions ) don't support any version of ESXi. The Disk Agent don't install is this operating system.

The only way is backup the VM guests how you do.

What do you need backup os the ESXi operating system ?

Hi,

why don't you try the backup using SAN based method in VEPA?

Hi zwerger,

Can you use the Vsphere client to restore files from within a single disk on a virtual machine with that method ?

If you can, please tell us how you have set it up ?

Best Regards
Heino

Re: Dataprotector 7.01 and VMware esxi 5.1

Hi Heino,

no, sorry, with this method you can only restore the entire vmdk files, not single files from within a vmdk. for this one you need the granular recovery.

Best regards,
Jürgen
