Dataprotector 6.2 Notebook Backups

Hello,

I have installed DP6.2 to backup all of our Server Systems.

Now we would also backup 300 Windows 7 Notebooks from our users.

Dataprotector Notebook Extension is no solution for us then we need also a Disaster Recovey function.

Doese anyone have experience with Dataprotector 6.2 and backup Notebooks from users?

Thank you very much

Re: Dataprotector 6.2 Notebook Backups

Data Protector is not build for such backup purposes. The cell itself will become slow and produce a lot of errors only because most of the notebooks are on travel and not reachable during backup time and even during non backup time. If you need DR, push HP to include it in Data Protector for PCs (new name for DPNE) or better choose a different product. There are some around and this will safe a lot of trouble and time.

From my perspective, DR for a notebook is not required in any case, since if you have 300 notebooks you will standard company deploy images in most of the cases. Data Protector for PC is much more then a regular user will expect - especially from the self service perspective and the well working background backup activity.

Regards,

Sebastian

Re: Dataprotector 6.2 Notebook Backups

the problem is, we have a lot of laptops with special settings and when a laptop will crash they have a lot of work to install the laptop new.

DP 6.2 support DR for Windows 7 laptops.

For example in DP 6.2 I can make the settings that the person can backup and restore their own notebook and they don't see in the gui the other laptops.

Or the people have to make a call to me and have to tell me when I should start a backup of there notebooks.

Thank you

Josef

Re: Dataprotector 6.2 Notebook Backups

Don't mix this up. Data Protector has support for Windows 7 including EADR, nothing else. If you need to have a current DR image all the time, choose a different product. Data Protector does not work very well with clients not connected to the LAN all the time. You will see a massive slow down of the GUI for example. Data Protector does only traditional scheduling and does not check if a mobile PC is attached to the network at backup time. So your jobs will just fail and you will have nothing to restore.

Sure, you could assign backup start permission to each client, but hey...this is just not the product for this purpose.
