Data protector Oracle restore to Different server

Hi team ,

I am trying to restore Production DB to Test db ( Oracle 11g & LINUX as OS)

When selecting PROD DB & TEST server as client , i am getting below error.

Any idea. Pls help its urgent

Binary util_orarest is missing. Cannot get information from the remote host.

ACTION :

Set the environment variable OB2_ORARESTHOSTNAME=<target_host> to specify different target hostname,
where you want to restore your database. In the ZDB case this must be the application host.

After setting the variable, restart Data Protector GUI.
Pls suggest where to change this parameter.

Re: Data protector Oracle restore to Different server

In the Oracle Integration Guide, in the Troubleshooting section:

Problem

“Binary util_orarest is missing” error is displayed when browsing Oracle restore sessions

The following error message is displayed when browsing Oracle database for restore sessions in

the Data Protector GUI Restore context:

Binary util_orarest is missing. Cannot get information from the remote host.

The problem can appear in the following cases:

When restoring database items to a new host.

When restoring 64-bit Oracle version 10.2.0.4 in the RAC environment, on HP-UX 11.23

PA-RISC systems. If util_orarest is present on the system, this error can mean that the

util_orarest agent ends abnormally while trying to load the 32-bit OCI library from the

ORACLE_HOME/lib32 directory.

Actions

When restoring database items to a new host, resolve the problem as follows:

1. Close Data Protector.

2. Set the environment variable on the system where the Cell Manager resides:

OB2_ORARESTHOSTNAME =target_Oracle_host

3. Restart Data Protector and try to restore the database items again.

4. When the restore is complete, close Data Protector and re-set the following environment

variable:

OB2_ORARESTHOSTNAME =empty

5. Restart Data Protector

Re: Data protector Oracle restore to Different server

Hi ,

I dont know why HP DP was giving false information , but actual issue was PROD user was not created in TEST.

I saw this error in inet.log.

After creating the PROD user in TEST & clicking next . It went fine. But now stuck at another issue mentioned below :

What are the pre-requisites for restoring DB to another system?

The selected Oracle database instance has never been configured.

The Data Protector repository with list of Oracle database instances does not

contain the name of selected Oracle database instance (<ORACLE_SID>).

Start the configuration. Check if the configuration was done successful.

If you got this error once more, then take the following actions:

1. Check permissions, existence and contents of Data Protector repository with

configuration of your Oracle database instances.

The repository is on the Data Protector Cell Manager.

For UNIX Cell Manager, the repository is in directory:

    /etc/opt/omni/server/integ/config/Oracle8.

On Windows Cell Manager, the repository is in directory:

    <Data_Protector_home>\Config\Server\Integ\Config\Oracle8.

2. Re-install Data Protector Oracle Integration Module to the client.

Re: Data protector Oracle restore to Different server

You have pretty much answered your own  question

"Start the configuration. Check if the configuration was done successful"

You have to install the Oracle integration component on the target system.  Then, you have to configure an instance with Data Protector as shown in the Integration Guide, and Check the Configuration

Re: Data protector Oracle restore to Different server

ORACLE_HOME for PROD system is /oradb/EBSPROD/db/11.2.0/
ORACLE_HOME for TEST system is /oradb/app/oraotm/product/11.2.0.

Re: Data protector Oracle restore to Different server

On the Target system, when you run, from the comand line

         cd /opt/omni/lbin

         ./util_oracle8.pl -chkconf -dbname TEST

what does it return?
