DP V6 Media Agent Reports Failure After Server Crash

We had a DL380 server crash and since then when scanning a drive for the tape the media agent reports media agent failed! I've reinstalled the media agent and applied patches, but no success. Any ideas on this? The drive is detected ok in Device manager and also DP.

Re: DP V6 Media Agent Reports Failure After Server Crash

Hi Chris,

is RSM disabled? You seem to use Windows Drivers, so DP is in STORport mode. I used to leave RSM enabled and just disable the library and tape drives in question within RSM, but every now and then, especially after a reboot or crash, the devices would reappear under new identifiers and RSM would claim them again, wreaking the usual havoc. This is most prominent in SAN environments. but it also happens with local SCSI setups.

If devices have changed somehow (often simply due to Windows hickups), maybe you need to reconfigure them in DP to point to the correct Tape0:XYZ or scsiXYZ destinations?

HTH,
Andre.

Re: DP V6 Media Agent Reports Failure After Server Crash

HI,

Resolved the issue by removing the backup device and adding it again.

Thanks

Chris
