DP 7 and RedHat 7 Cannot connect to Cell Manager

I have a clean install of DP 7 on a Redhat 6.3 box.  Install went fine and xomni GUI comes up but cannot connect to the Cell Manager.

I show this:

omnisv -status
    ProcName  Status  [PID]
===============================
    rds     : Active  [3380]
    crs     : Active  [3395]
    mmd     : Active  [3393]
    kms     : Active  [3394]
    omnitrig: Active
    uiproxy : Active  [3399]
    Sending of traps disabled.
===============================
Status: All Data Protector relevant processes/services up and running.

When I start the xomni GUI and try to connect to the Cell Manager

Cannot access the Cell Manager system I get this:

The Cell Manager host is not reachable or is not up and running
or has no Cell Manager software installed and configured on it
or UIProxy service is not up and running.

After running xomni and closing the GUI I now show this:

omnisv -status
    ProcName  Status  [PID]
===============================
    rds     : Active  [3380]
    crs     : Active  [3395]
    mmd     : Active  [3393]
    kms     : Active  [3394]
    omnitrig: Active
    uiproxy : Down
    Sending of traps disabled.
===============================
Status: At least one of Data Protector relevant processes/services is not running.

Port 5555 is assigned to data protector, the firewall is off for right now and I can ping the host name.  I already added these path entries:

# /etc/ld.so.conf.d/omni.conf - Added for Data Protector Software
/opt/omni/lib
/opt/omni/lib/arm
/opt/omni/java/server/bin

Any idea what's going on?

Thanks

Re: DP 7 and RedHat 7 Cannot connect to Cell Manager

Please provide debug.log and output from ldd /opt/omni/java/server/bin/uiproxyd. You might also try to run /opt/omni/java/server/bin/uiproxyd manually to see if it comes up or not. Might be name resolution as well. Check omnidbutil -show_cell_name.

Sebastian

I think he is just missing compat-libstdc++-33.

Re: DP 7 and RedHat 7 Cannot connect to Cell Manager

That looks just allright. Have you tried to connect using a Windows GUI or a Java GUI located on a different host. From you first post, my understanding is that uiproxy dies once you try to connect, right? In that case, try...

1. omnisv stop; omnisv start

3. connect via xomni

4. omnisv status (to see if uiproxy is dead)

5. /opt/omni/java/server/bin/uiproxyd -logfile /tmp/uiproxyd.log

6. connect via xomni

Check and/provide the logfile /tmp/uiproxyd.log. If it does not contain any useful information you could start it in debug mode using /opt/omni/java/server/bin/uiproxyd -debug 1-500 /tmp/DBG_UIPROXYD.txt.

Sebastian

Re: DP 7 and RedHat 7 Cannot connect to Cell Manager

Thanks.  You are correct, when I start xomni I cannot connect to the cell manager and the uiproxy fails but had been running before starting xomni.

Here's the output from the uiproxy.log file, not much there:

more uiproxyd.log
[---] uiproxyd: initializing...

I don't have another computer with DP on it right now that I can use to try to connect to the cell manager.  I can set one up but it will take a while.

Re: DP 7 and RedHat 7 Cannot connect to Cell Manager

Ok, found it. This was a known issue for DP 6.1x and 6.2x. Not sure why DP 7.0 is still affected. Ask support to port the fix QCCR2A31568 to DP 7.0.

Thanks for your help. I've asked support to look into this. Will let you know what they find.

Re: DP 7 and RedHat 7 Cannot connect to Cell Manager

HP support wasn't much help. Here's what they had to say:

Unfortunately Red Hat 6.3 is not yet supported as a Java GUI client, so probably this reason why the process is going down. Since this is a non-supported configuration I would recommend to use the Windows GUI which doesn’t have this issue.

Re: DP 7 and RedHat 7 Cannot connect to Cell Manager

Hi,

You can use any Windows machine, including don't need to be client machine DP. If you do so tell me and send you the steps to take.

Re: DP 7 and RedHat 7 Cannot connect to Cell Manager

Thanks.  I talked to HP Support again and thye are certain its because I'm using Redhat 6.3 instead of 6.2  The cell_info file is missing so the install wasn't even complete.  They suggested I do a clean install of 6.2

Re: DP 7 and RedHat 7 Cannot connect to Cell Manager

I solved this by installing Java 6 pdate 45 from Oracle. I know it's out of support at this point, but Java 7 will not work.
