DP 6.20 Upgradation without UNIX installation server

Hi all,

We have DP6.11 running in windows cell manager and we have windows clients and unix clients.

Now planning for upgrading it to DP6.20. The problem is now we dont have unix installation server.

is there any problem occur if we upgrade windows clients alone? and is there any alternate way to upgrade the unix clients also?

is it possible to use any unix clients as Installation server?

kindly help for smooth upgrade

Re: DP 6.20 Upgradation without UNIX installation server

Hi,

about your questions:

is there any problem occur if we upgrade windows clients alone?

R/No problem, you can update the CM and clients are not updated after updating to 6.2 upgrade Windows clients.

Also you can use CM in any version and clients also, is not recomandable but works.

and is there any alternate way to upgrade the unix clients also?

Yes, try with  the HPUX DVD  to update them,

is it possible to use any unix clients as Installation server?

It depends, tell us what kind of OS are your unix machina(also 64 and 32 bits?) and help you.

Re: DP 6.20 Upgradation without UNIX installation server

Hi Eblyn,

Thanks for your update. sorry for late reply

HP UX 11i V3, 64 bit  is our Operating system version.

We have downloaded DP6.20 software. can we use it to upgrade unix clients manually in each clients since we have less number of unix clients?

Kindly let me know to upgrate unix clients manually?

Thanks in advance.

Re: DP 6.20 Upgradation without UNIX installation server

Hi,

even if you have only 5 HP-UX clients it is worth to install a installation server for Unix. The time needed to install 5 clients manually is the same as the installation of the IS will take. The steps needed to install a Unix IS (I prefer a virtual machine): Install SLES 64Bit or RedHat 64Bit, copy the Linux installation DVD to the box, run omnisteup -IS, run ssh-keygen, copy the created key to all you Unix clients into the file authorized_keys in /root./ssh, modify .omnirc on IS (OB2_SSH_ENABLED=1), import the viretual machine as installation server into DP, upgrade the Unix clients... done.

If you still like to do the upgrade manually: copy the IS DVD to the Unix box (or mount it using NFS) and run omnisetup.sh. As an alternative you can install the depot files using swinstall.

Best regards

Daniel

Re: DP 6.20 Upgradation without UNIX installation server

Remember that just the 6.20 upgrade is not enough. You need to apply the latest patches, which could be a pain without an IS. If you like to go the hard way, refer to my post here. You need to adjust the procedure a bit for HP-UX.

Patch Data Protector standalone client
