Since yesterday we got the error message [90:54] Cannot open device (The system cannot find the file specified) on 2 tape drives (scsi3:0:2:0C and scsi3:0:2:1C). The SCSI scan drop down list doesn't show these scsi devices.
The drives with scsi4:0:2:1C and scsi4:0:2:2C are working properly.
With "uma -ioctl scsi4:0:2:0" it is possible to stat all the drives, and move tapes to all the drives.
Why does DP see only 2 drives?

you said that this is a SAN environtment.
May it be that the two missing drives are connected with anothe FC cable, of to another port in the switch, and there was a change in the configuration ?

Did a reboot take place of the windows server prior to your problem? If so the reboot probably changed the hardware path of some of the devices on your windows server (RSM service). You can check the HW-path of the tape units under the device manager: right-click on the tape unit and choose properties. You will find the location: BUS / Target ID / LUN which should correspond with the properties of the tape unit defined in DP (0:2:1C). To solve the problem use sanconf or select the (new) SCSI path in the pull down menu for the properties of the tape units in DP.

Now you have a clue.
Is the port working properly ?
Can you check on th fc switch ?
If there ay other device connected to that fc port, that is no more visible ?

as stated before check windows device manager if you can see devices. According to my experience windows loses san connected drives in case of maintenance (eg library powerdown for about 1 hour) - you can reboot the client but this is not always possible.
Try the following as it helped me without rebooting clients: Reconfigure Storage Router and present the NSR (e1200-600?) to the client - install the driver after popup message "new hardware found" - and the drives appear immediately and never get lost again (provided that this is your problem)

Permanently disable windows 2003 Remote storage service.
Upgrade all windows HP Management agents to 7.10 or higher.
Download and run :
Check mapping setting on NSR and set them to indexed and correctly populate them.
Check for Library/NSR firmware issues. Library latest 3.55 NSR latest 5.6.06 but be carefull: if LTO drive fw less then 33 than you will not see the whole scsi bus to which these drives are connected due to NSR FW version. If needed, downgrade NSR fw to 5.3.0b, upgrade LTO FW and upgrade NSR to 5.6.06
