49.4C06 Service Error

HP Color LaserJet 4600 DTN issue. Printing a PDF file which contains some Chinese characters, the file prints fine until it gets to the page with the chinese on and then it gives the above error. Printing Chinese from a DOC file is not a problem.

Re: 49.4C06 Service Error

A few things you can try.

1. Change drivers. If you are using a PCL6, try a PS and vice versa.

2. If you have Acrobat, recreate the PDF on your machine. The PDF writer creates the PDF based on the program being written from (be it Word, Photoshop, etc). So, open your pdf, print it with the Writer to a different name and try it.

3. May need a firmware update. There was a known issue with some PDF's causing this error that was resolved in a firmware update sometime ago. It didn't resolve it 100%, but it cleared a lot of them out. Just head to hp.com and search for "4600 firmware download" for instructions.

Re: 49.4C06 Service Error

49 errors are generally communication errors or file related issues and can usually be resolved by following the steps below:

Turn the printer off, and then turn it on again.
If the 49 error returns turn the power off, unplug the power cable, disconnect all network cables, and remove the HP Jetdirect card (or any third-party devices), if installed.
Wait at least 30 seconds before plugging the printer back in directly to a wall outlet. Do not plug the printer into a power strip or a surge protector.
Turn the printer on. If the 49 error returns, turn the power off, and then unplug the printer.
Remove the formatter board.
Check that the parallel I/O board is firmly installed on the formatter board.
Check for any non-HP memory DIMMs. If any extra memory is installed, remove it.
Reconnect the power cord, and turn the power on.
If the 49 error returns, perform a cold reset.
Turn the printer on.
Watch the control panel.
When the memory starts counting, press and hold the green (Select) button.
Continue holding the green (Select) button until the Ready, Data, and Attention lights flash once, and then stay on steady.
Release the (Select) button when the Ready, Data, and Attention light are on steady
The control panel will display SELECT LANGUAGE.
Press (Down Arrow) button once. The control panel will display COLD RESET.
Press (Select). The printer will perform a cold reset and then continue its power-on sequence.

Re: 49.4C06 Service Error

I guess you were using the PS driver to produce the output. In this case I'd try to install newer version of the printer firmware (downloadable of the web). If that doesn't help, call HP support and have the problem fixed. It could be incompatibility in the postscript, produced by the PDF file and the printer interpreter.

Sometimes helps to print from the Acrobat with PS-2 selected, safer is the mentioned PCL6 driver.

good luck
