Backup strategy for SAP environment

What is the recommended way to backup SAP environments which run Oracle. I know SAP has BR*Tools which can backup the database, but what are the advantages of using BR*tools over normal oracle hot backups?

Re: Backup strategy for SAP environment

Chetan,

Not knowing more about your storage enviroment, the setup of a hot and cold backup is always advisable. Test and restore the data to make sure everything is working.

If you have a product like an xp12000 or an emc environment, you can backup from a mirrored volume for a cold backup while your applciation is up. You'll need to resynch before you do the next cold though.

Re: Backup strategy for SAP environment

Environment is EVA storage with Business Copy. The cheaper way to do it is just put the DB in hotbackup mode and backup the copy.

The other way is to use brbackup with the backint interface to tie into our backup infrastructure. I am looking for some justification for the high cost of using backint...
