vl400 and 2x256Mb

Hello,

I was lead to believe that the vectra vl400 could support 512MB of RAM in the form of two 256MB sticks. So I got two 256MB SDRAM PC133 32Mx64 Low Density sticks. When I set one in, it boots fine, and assumes 256MB memory. But if I set them both, the e-Buzzer gives a memory error code (long ringing beep, then 3 beeps).

Am I missing something here?

Best regards,

Miguel Cunha

Go to HP Partsturfer and search for the original part number of your memory dimms.

If you find them on Ebay, you can buy them almost quite inexpensive.

Re: vl400 and 2x256Mb

Any module double sided with an empty middle supporting the SPD method will run from any manufactor.

Double sided x16 DIMMS from PC-133 are also compatible with PC-100 and PC-66.

HP has tested early Vectra seris with ECC dimms even those PC don't support this feature, but at least x18DIMMS should work as well. I am not sure about this.
