Trying to revive an old Vectra D5604A

I put my perfectly working Vectra (D5604A) Ser No. FR74154349, on a shelf 3 yrs ago and now want to give it to a needy school. However, it won't boot.........gets 2 errors.....0012-09 Incorrect PC Config, and 0040-72 Invalid PC Ser. No.
I go through the loading of the ser no. in "Set Up" but it goes round in circles and keeps coming back with the same errors. Any ideas out there ? I've put a new battery in!

That is a Hp vectra VE 5. Pentium 200 MMX i think.

Clear CMOS and delete the incorrect serial number loaded into the BIOS. You may look for the bios configuration utility, not really sure how that is done!
