This PC can have two IDE units. Originally fitted with one IDE harddrive(master) and one CD-RW drive(slave). I decided to test one DVD rom instead of the CD-RW. Result was at every attempt errormessage "device 0 error". The harddisk could not be detected. Clear of CMOS had no effect. I put back the CD-RW and everything was working again. BIOS version is H0.11.05 SW. Are these units too old to use DVD drives?

I tried HP CD writer DVD combo 9900 and a quite new LG DVD writer in my Kayak XU connected to IDE master. They both ware recognized by bios and Windows XP Pro, but the picture of DVD movie was corrupted, when played with VLC player.

My computer is Kayak XU6 with 2 x 500MHz PIII processors and it has the latest bios HK.11.11US. All drives are connected with SCSI card. The Dvd drive was connected as IDE master.

I bought a DVD drive a few years ago but on reading the fine print Sony said that it required a 1 GHZ processor. A friend just put a DVD drive in another 1GHZ machine but it wouldn't play because it dosen't have a video CODEC on it
