Compaq Deskpro P500 ENS BIOS Update ?

My desktop computer "Compaq Deskpro P500 ENS" can't detect a new harddisk "Hitachi-IBM 160GB 7200rpm IDE" where can download & update my BIOS to support a large harddisk, thank you so much.

You need to contact the maker for a bios overlay, or use a seperate controller card. As a side note, updated bios's don't usually fix this problem anyhow.

The 160GB drive may need a new 48 bit IDE controller card to work. It also requires an operating system with the correct minimum SP in order to run correctly. See:

There is a software update for Intel Chipset software (used in most Deskpros) called Intel(R) Application Accelerator which lets you read these oversize drives but I think it only works with P4 CPUs. http://www.intel.com

You can check the HP site to see if there is a newer BIOS. It won't hurt but it probably won't help either:
