dc7600 PCI Simple Communications Controller

I have recently begun working on an image for a dc7600. I have all the drivers reinstalled except one device. A PCI Simple Communications Controller shows up in device manager as not having a driver. Anyone have any idea what device this is? I have nothing in any of the PCI slots so it must be built onto the board. I've tried all of the drivers listed on the dc7600 driver page with no luck.

Re: dc7600 PCI Simple Communications Controller

yes, the PCI should be included with the chipset driver.

For example:

HP Compaq dc7600 Convertible Minitower PC
RUNNING XP:

Re: dc7600 PCI Simple Communications Controller

I installed the chipset first thing, just reinstalled it with no change. Still missing the PCI Simple Communications Controller.

Re: dc7600 PCI Simple Communications Controller

Tried that too, even though there is no modem in this box. This phantom PCI comm device is a mystery for the ages.

Re: dc7600 PCI Simple Communications Controller

Have you tried the TPM driver?

Can you pull the Device Instance ID out of the Details tab of Device Manager?

Re: dc7600 PCI Simple Communications Controller

It's not the TPM security driver

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2994&SUBSYS_2801103C&REV_02\3&B1BFB68&0&18

The location is listed as PCI bus 0, device 3, function 0

Re: dc7600 PCI Simple Communications Controller

What is in your 3rd PCI slot?

count form the CPU side as 1.

That is what DEVICE 3 means....

That card is the one you are missing the driver to.

Re: dc7600 PCI Simple Communications Controller

There is nothing in the third slot, the only card in this machine is the video card in the PCIe slot. Actually there isn't even a third regular PCI slot, there are only two in this machine plus the PCIe slot.

Re: dc7600 PCI Simple Communications Controller

The only reference to PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2994 is the HECI driver for AMT... which only dc7700p have.

It's in HECI\HECI.inf

Re: dc7600 PCI Simple Communications Controller

The 3 is still the 3rd device that is in error. In this case the 3rd device is how th e OS sees it. On multicard systems it can be the 3rd PCI card that is why I asked.

Here is a better explaination:

A bit techy but hey that is what I am....

Re: dc7600 PCI Simple Communications Controller

The HECI driver cleared it up. Even though you say its for a 7700, this resolved my missing driver on a small form factor dc7600.

Thanks again all.

Re: dc7600 PCI Simple Communications Controller

Hi All,

I'm having exactly the same problem (PCI driver) on the same PC (DC7600), but I've followed the steps given here and it is still not fixed. When I tried the 7700 driver, it said it was not compatible. The PCI device ID is

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27D8&SUBSYS_3011103C&REV_01\3&B1BFB68&0&D8.

Is there a place where I can lookup what a device is from its ID?

Note there are no PCI cards installed. It has on board modem etc. & all other drivers are happy.

Thanks for any assistance!

Dave

Re: dc7600 PCI Simple Communications Controller

I've noticed now that although the modem drivers appear ok, I am unable to query the modem. It insisted on setting up the modem on COM1, even though there is a physical COM1 on the motherboard, so clearly there is a problem with the modem. I have flashed the BIOS now, upgrading it from 1.03 to 1.59. I then tried re-installing all the drivers, still no luck.

Re: dc7600 PCI Simple Communications Controller

Hello,
I have a DC7600 CMT which one of the users installeda Computer Associates Intel based modem V.90/V.92.
I has created the same scenario others here are describing.
Unknown device PCI simple communications controller

The modem drivers provided with the device did not help.
Reinstalled the chipset drivers, no help.
Updated the BIOS, no help.
Tried to install the HECI driver mentioned earlier in the thread, (system not compatiable) no help.
Any other suggestions ?

Thanks for you assistance in advanced
