Windows 7 Install problem with HP dx5150 MT

I have downloaded windows 7 32 bit and 64 bit versions and tried to install each on the 5150. Both version die at the big blue screen with the sun shining down from the top. The mouse is also dead at this screen. The computer has 2 gigs of memory, 2 DVD drives, nothing unusual.

I know the 32 bit download is valid as I installed it on an ASUS A7N8X without a problem. I even got an HP laserjet 1012 installed to print. Never happened on Vista until the new 1012 driver was found on this web site.

Any one know what the problem is with the 5150 and windows 7?

When the release version is out, I want to install Windows 7 64 bit on the 5150.

Re: Windows 7 Install problem with HP dx5150 MT

Does it blue screen during boot process?

Then it may be the SATA driver.

HP will not support this OS till production.

And even then not sure.

Re: Windows 7 Install problem with HP dx5150 MT

The DVD will startup and start the install process. Some programs seem to load and the the blue screen with the sun shining down will load and the process stops. The blue screen is not the BSOD.

After thinking about your answer, I think I will take out one of the DVD drives and see if I can install to an IDE drive instead of the SATA drive. The ASUS A7N8X used an IDE drive and installed at 32 bit OK. I will try to install the 64 bit version to the IDE drive on the 5150.

I will let you know the results.

We have 5150 hardware here. A co-worker of mine has successfully installed Windows 7 on the 5150 hardware.

Re: Windows 7 Install problem with HP dx5150 MT

Solution to this is to disable floppy disk in the bios. W7 installs just fine afterwards
