Problem with PCIe Network Card in dc7700

Hello,

I have an HP Compaq dc7700 Convertible Minitower and i build in a second network card, an Intel Gigabit CT Desktop Adapter in the PCI-Express slot.

Now the PC refuses to boot. It shows the HP logo at the beginning and stops there. I can't even enter the BIOS.

If i remove the card, the PC boots without a problem.

Thanks in advance, Oliver Bosch

Re: Problem with PCIe Network Card in dc7700

Hi, Oliver:

As far as I know the only PCIe device you can install in a dc7700 is a video card. Try a PCI network card and you should be fine.

Re: Problem with PCIe Network Card in dc7700

Hello,

thanks for the quick reply.

I used a PCI network card which worked fine, but now i need both PCI slots for other cards (development boards)... the only free Slot is the PCIe x1 slot so i bought an PCIe network card....

Is there no other option? Is this a Hardware limitation or a BIOS issue?

Re: Problem with PCIe Network Card in dc7700

Hi:

I am not sure which it is. I only know that others have tried and were unsuccesful.

May I suggest you try an external USB wired network adapter if you must have the free PCI slots?

They are readily available.

Good Idea with the USB Network adapter.. I have to check if they comply with my demands.

Re: Problem with PCIe Network Card in dc7700

Hi:

Perhaps one like this would work for you. Capable of 1 GBPS/transfer as good as any internal card...

http://www.usb-ware.com/usb-ethernet-gigabit-adapter-ae2300.htm

I found several kinds by doing a search by using the phrase     USB 2.0 TO GIGABIT ETHERNET ADAPTER
