Parameter cspwdfile in the BIOS Configuration Utility doesnt work

[ Edited ]

Hallo,

I have a problem with the BUC. On the HP page i find the newest version here:

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/caps-softpaq/cmit/HP_BCU.html

The newest version is 2.60.13. In the user guide of the BUC all parameters are explained, one parameter is called /cspwdfile:"filename" to assign the bios password in a encrypted file. This file is generated with the HPQPswd.exe. In the user guide of BUC is the information that this parameter only works with version 3.0.1.1 or higher but the newest version i found on the hp page is 2.60.13.

What did i wrong? Where can i find the BUC version to use the parameter /cspwdfile because with the version 2.60.13 of BUC i get an error that this is a wrong parameter.

Thanks for help!

This is a peer to peer forum, not an official HP support site.
Have you tried contacting the HPSC?

Reading the user guide that comes with 2.60.13 (sp62273) indicates that versions prior to 3.0.1.1 use an unencrypted password  with the command line.  The user guide shows both new and old command line options allowing users familiar with the older versions to recognize changes.

To set bios setting values using versions prior to 3.0.1.1 - including version 2.60.13:

         BiosConfigUtility.exe /set:"settings.txt"  /cspwd:"biospassword"

To change bios password using versions prior to 3.0.1.1 - including version 2.60.13:

         BiosConfigUtility.exe /cspwd:"biospassword" /npswd:"newpassword"

To set bios setting values using BCU 3.0.1.1 or later

        BiosConfigUtility.exe /set:"settings.txt"  /cspwdfile:"encrypted_filename.bin"

To change bios password using BCU 3.0.1.1 or later

        BiosConfigUtility.exe /cspwdfile:"encrypted_filename.bin" /nspwdfile:"new_encrypted_filename.bin"

The password utility encrypts the password in a file with a .bin extension and it is necessary to provide the full file name.

The release date on the web site shows that version 3.0.3.1 was released on 10/18/2013.

You have done nothing wrong.  The user guide is providing information for more than a single version.

Also note that HP has recently created a community forum for PC client management topics, including BCU & SSM
