Need A 768C1 BIOS Upgrade in a DC7100 to Support SATA HD Drives >250GB

Hi,

Based on the excerpt from my open HP Pro Support Case #4607023260, I'd like to know if HP can provide a BIOS upgrade to support SATA Drives >250GB in DC7100 Workstations:

Thank you for the confirmation.

[Tuesday, November 24, 2009 7:17 AM] -- Deepak R says:
Lorenzo, please note that since Windows 7 is not tested in this unit, we do not have the drivers for Windows 7 in this unit.

[Tuesday, November 24, 2009 7:18 AM] -- Lorenzo Bonado says:
Are there any plans to support this legcy unit?

[Tuesday, November 24, 2009 7:19 AM] -- Deepak R says:
Well, I am not sure about that. Once we get any information about that we shall update you.

[Tuesday, November 24, 2009 7:19 AM] -- Lorenzo Bonado says:
at the very least support a WDC RE3 500MB Drive in the unit>

?

[Tuesday, November 24, 2009 7:21 AM] -- Deepak R says:
Well, for this you need to have the drivers for the western digital hard drive drivers, I am sorry to say that we do have the drivers for Windows 7 for this hard drive. I am sorry for the inconvenience.

[Tuesday, November 24, 2009 7:21 AM] -- Lorenzo Bonado says:
the drive is being read incorrectly by the 786cv1 V2.15 BIOS as 0.0 MB. It's a SATA Drive. Western Digital recommends I Contact HP, so I am :-)

[Tuesday, November 24, 2009 7:22 AM] -- Deepak R says:
Okay, in that case please place the hard drive to a known good unit and check if that units detects that fine.

[Tuesday, November 24, 2009 7:23 AM] -- Lorenzo Bonado says:
abd that;s according to there support forum , they say it's a system manufacturing (motherboard issue)

[Tuesday, November 24, 2009 7:24 AM] -- Deepak R says:
Well, this is not a system board issue. This seems to be a hard drive issue.

[Tuesday, November 24, 2009 7:26 AM] -- Lorenzo Bonado says:
yes a WDC 80GB SATA Drive does detexct. but my Brand new 500GB WDC RE3 registers , but with a 0.0 MB Capacity. accodinng to WDC this is a SATA Controller issue. the Intel site has discontinued the Ich6R Controller support. So this has become a He saidshe said issue. Is there any way to escalate this issue?

[Tuesday, November 24, 2009 7:27 AM] -- Deepak R says:
Yes, this unit supports only till 250GB of hard drive in the unit at a maximum. Not more than that.

[Tuesday, November 24, 2009 7:30 AM] -- Lorenzo Bonado says:
That is unfortunate can i formally request that HP create a Patch for the 250GB SATA limit and have have HP report this on the HP ITC Windows 7 support form ASAP?

[Tuesday, November 24, 2009 7:32 AM] -- Deepak R says:
Well, I shall inform the same to concern department, and will inform you as soon as possible. Is that okay?

[Tuesday, November 24, 2009 7:35 AM] -- Lorenzo Bonado says:
yes with priority if possible since this has become a major issue with many users on the HP ITC form other than myself :-). on that note are there capacity limits for the IDE controller or is it the same 250GB limit?

[Tuesday, November 24, 2009 7:36 AM] -- Deepak R says:
Well, both the limits are the same. You may go upto 250GB.

[Tuesday, November 24, 2009 7:37 AM] -- Lorenzo Bonado says:
ok. Please keep the Case number open with priority. Thanks for the insight
